Dartford tunnels closed

Dont they ever open the bridge to two way traffic ? Seems ludicrous to send trucks on potentially a 100 mile diversion

no  but they’ve brought you off the bridge and used the tunnel at night before! :sunglasses: strange that, must be a cockerknee thing :grimacing:

Nope. Never allowed a contraflow there.
Where the two tunnels are there is back up road layout to allow the tunnels to be used either direction. There is no way for anticlockwise traffic to get to the bridge from their side of the road.

What I don’t understand is that it’s closed for emergency service to do a training exercise. I don’t see why this requires both tunnel bores as surely they are alike.

Just a quickie for the OP, just been through the B/wall tunnel, height limit 4m if you’re running in from France do you not have to comply with EC 4m height limit? the route to the M11 is all exempt from control & OK to use!(you have to be a bit careful in the tunnel take up both lanes on the bends and don’t stray to far over to the right) jobs a goodun

Still don’t know why they need both tunnels for training. What scenario would have an emergency simultaneously in both bores.
Also, close the S/B Blackwall tunnel and use it as a N/B lane as it’s much higher. Any southbound traffic can still use the QE2 bridge to get back over the river.

Thanks everybody. Managed to get the delivery moved back a couple hours and just waited in the services at folkestone till 3 so i got thru dartford at 4 when it opened.

Thats too easy!

Us locals have been known to get dirty number plates along there

Yes, there’s a lot of litter blowing around in London and it’s not unheard of for an old carrier bag to get blown up onto the number plate and somehow get wedged there. :stuck_out_tongue:
