I’ve never been at the front when tankers have been escorted through. I see them parked up waiting but how long do they wait? Is it a case of waiting for so many or is it run to a sort of schedule? Just curious really
Escorts should be every 15 mins. Sometimes I have to wait longer though.

You can wait a long time for it. I’ve not gone through with the tankers but I’ve gone through as oversized.
In the 70’ 80’s you could sometime wait up to an hour but that was fairly unusual. Average time was usually about ten to fifteen minutes.Obviously the more waiting the longer it took.
Have not been that way for a while now. Thank goodness.
Better to the question why do they need an ■■■■■■ .They don’t need one for bell common or holmesdale tunnel
.You go in one end and pop out the other end so what the difference…

Hi fingermissing,
The answer to your question is that it is a legal requirement.
Road tunnels are categorised A - E, where a category ‘A’ tunnel is regarded as very safe and therefore has no restriction as to what dangerous goods are allowed through it.
At the other end of the scale, a category ‘E’ tunnel has very few modern safety features, so therefore hardly any dangerous goods are allowed through it.

Correct because they are category ‘A’ tunnels, and have no restrictions.

Hopefully… explained above.
