Just to let you all know, when I came out the open bore, there was a Wymondham freight scania and trailer sitting in the layby just outside the closed bore with substantial front end damage and the trailer looked as if it had been bridged and the laser unit was parked behind it and every tyre that I could see were flat or burst.

I reckon a bit of P38 will sort it
More likely P45!!

Just because the Stobart lorry has come to rest in the outside lane does not mean it was driving in that lane. Possibly made a last-minute avoiding action to the right. But he wouldn’t need to take avoiding action to the right if he was in the nearside lane and keeping a safe distance from the vehicle in front, surely?
+1

No ,I ran into the back of a car and totalled it,I’m still employed,as long as you follow company procedures on reporting accidents he should be fine, assuming it was a stobart driver in the hot seat.
Great news isn’t it ,that he will keep his job, well to some of us it is
I wonder what the penalty to driver & operator is for such a major event that involved emergency resurfacing work as well…
Over-tonnage alone should invoke a driving ban eh?
Is it any wonder the public think so little of us…

I wonder if all that lost revenue for the owners of the tolls can be claimed back by whoever is found at fault?
The west bore tunnel (the one to the left as you clear the tolls) does indeed have a 7 1/2t limit. I think this is to stop vehicle’s bigger than a 7 1/2 tonner trying to squeeze past artics etc in the nearside lane as it is very tite. Altho this doesn’t stop some idiots trying to get past. Only the other day a maritime driver was clearly in a hurry so tore down the 7 1/2t lane nearly taking out ever truck mirror in the nearside lane, mine included. I think the east bore right hand lane has a 3 1/2t limit on it?.
Dipper_Dave:
Hero HGV drivers should be banned from overtaking in the tunnel as with roadworks… For the sake of a few mph just sit there and accept your fate and career choice.
Looks like hero Stobart ran out of talent clipped the concrete then hit truck on nearside, both doing virtually the same speed ground to a halt.In order to avoid this just use the middle pedal.
Stobard may just have 2 Pedals
3.5 ton limit on the outside lane of the right hand side tunnel, I go through those tunnels 3 times a night 5 days a week and never see lorries in the outside lanes…bad boy stobbart.

That tunnel use to be two way so there is enough room for to lorrys to pass each other.
^^^^^ Well that kinda blew that theory right out of the water didn’t it?

I would hope not. The Dartford Crossing tolls are a farce and should have been removed years ago as originally planned. They waited until the queues reached 10 miles before lifting the tolls to ease congestion, it should have been done straight away given the inevitable traffic carnage to come.
Anyway, looks like Johnny Foreigner will be crossing for free soon… kentonline.co.uk/dartford/ne … ing-13512/
I remember listening to some DfT berk on Jeremy Vine show responding to the “this is all paid for several times over” argument, and the chap was trying to tell everyone that the tolls were only there to limit the amount of traffic on the bridge. I immediately noted the time, to see how long before the inevitable call came. 3 minutes later…
“I’d just like to tell that idiot whose wages we all pay that the toll booths are AFTER the bridge and all they can therefore do is max out the weight on the bridge”. Cue much squirming and a speech that Sir Humphrey Appleby would have been proud of…

This photo wasn’t taken by Chris Reeves. It was taken by me as I work on the tunnel and the bridge. It wasn’t four lorries at all, it was three lorries. The Stobart lorry tried to cut up the Laser Express lorry causing the Stobart lorry to jack knife and colliding with the laser express lorry. Therefore causing another artic lorry to collide into the back of the laser express lorry. That’s what really happened, don’t go believing people who wasn’t there and who certainly didn’t take the photo.

Please share your original photo (use link to photobucket if you like) so we can be sure your not just a troll who has failed an Eddie Stobart assesment.
