Today at junction 1 M6 southbound matrix signal showing 40mph I slow’s down to about 45mph put hazard lights on because of tailback caused by roadworks northbound sending traffic from Rugby down to the Catthorpe interchange with the A14 then back up M6. I by this time had come to a stop as I wanted the A14 which is the nearside lane. I am at least a mile if not more from the turnoff. What happens next had me z/b myself, the outside 2 lanes where used not only by cars BUT HGV’s too!!!. Just about 5 or 6 vehicles in front of me had a lucky escape when this fully loaded car transporter who was in the outside lane had a transit with a car trailer pulled out in front of him & he was flying. He did manage to swerve to miss it but he go a right wobble on. This happened long before the dotted lines where the 2 M6 / M1 south lanes can be used buy all.
In the last 2 weeks there have been accidents on that stretch.

Kit Kat & JimmyC I saw the matrix flashing long before the final signal so I slowed to 45mph then I could see the stationary traffic in the distance so I slowed right down to below 40 with hazzards flashing. If you where in the same position as me with what I would call idiots racing past you I can assure you it was frightning more so because only lastweek one of our drivers was injured when the same thing happened to him he had stopped on the M20 because of an accident & was belted up the z/b by another truck. Also yes 45mph is not the same as 40mph YET its a dam site nearer to 40mph than 56mph. If you also read Majic Mels post, I came along the same stretch of road today & the skid marks on the road & marks up the verge you can see the aftermath.

Matrix signs “cry wolf” far too often — and you can understand why they’re only taken as a warning (or ignored). At least we have a better vantage point.
Does it matter where the dotted lines are? If its pretty obvious that lane 1 is queuing for an exit, then is regarding Lane 1 as being obstructed that unreasonable?
that was a bad one the poor sod at the back that jacknifed and crushed half his cab was being put in the air ambulance as i passed. but it also sugests the 3 trucks following the front one that stopped were tailgating as the back 2 motors had there cabs pushed back by the impact wich made them look like 45 foot rigids

so the 70mph sign’s are advisory as well tell that to pc plod when he’s writing your ticket out

The standard matrix signs with the orange lights are advisory limits, you can’t be done for speeding. You may be prosecuted for driving without due care and attention for not taking notice of the road ahead but it is highly unlikely. Its only the matrix signs with the red circle i.e. the M25 which are speed limits.
The only idiot was the van driver for pulling out in front of the truck.
