because of the way my place as purchased my iveco all servicing and repairs are taken care of by the dealer which means it pays the boss to send it nite trunking. That’s no good me because i sped to stop in the yard during the week. A 03 daf 105xf has become spare and i’ve asked if i can have it.
I know not many people like iveco’s but i’m impressed with the cab layout and it’s good to drive but what are daf’s like any pros and cons?
the xf is good aslong as its a manual. though i have only driven one right ■■■■■■ xf once, and a bit more with a left ■■■■■■. they are big inside and things are easy to get to.
they are not my favourite but they are a hell of a lot better than an iveco

firstly, the 03 plate was an XF95 not a 105
secondly, you don’t mention if it is a space cab or a superspace cab
the DAF XF is a good truck to drive, good layout, fantastic mattress
the superspace cab is better obviously
oh, your sign does not show up that well on the grille of the Stralis
took me a while to work out it was you today
XF or Iveco = no contest
take the XF, its well laid out and quite a bit of room in them, a bit more than the iveco i think. the bed is really comfy and the driving position is better than the iveco.
if its a manual its a nice drive but most manuals that i have driven have been quite difficult to get it into 3rd/7th for some reason. teh auto’s once you get used to them are ok, you just need to learn to blip teh accelerator as you come to junction/roundabout so it will select the gear you want to pull away.
can you not try it for a few days and see what you think as all of them will drive a bit differently and things that i liek might not be what you like!
give it a try, as the old saying goes, once you’ve had daf you never go back or have i got that wrong
they are a good motor if the power is right the older 430’s seem to tyre quick pullin 44 ton unless they have been very well looked after.
It would be a tough call if it was me, if it was my bosses truck I would take the Stralis, because I think the bed is comfy, the layout is well thought of, the driving position is good, they pull well and are just a nice drive.
If it was a truck with my own money it would be the DAF as its far more reliable and better put together.
Just as an aside, isn’t it the same Auto box in both? the AStronik?
Alex
i think i would take the daff i run both the bunks on the stralis are uncomfortable complete opposit from above post…
daff bunk much better, but all round id go for the daff
john
I drive a new 09 Daf XF105 460 everyday…Good job it has air conditioning
There is a massive amount of room in it, the seat is very comfortable all day long, the power is very good, mine is auto and it can be a bit jerky on slow pull offs if the ground is uneven, I would prefer a manual, but the auto is probably better for all the London work that I do.
It has many electric toys that make your life easy
I can only find one bad point and that is the lock on steering, you have to make sure that you get it right from the off as it has one of the worst turning circles of any truck that I have driven.
Other than that, good equipment with a very comfortable bed and two sets of curtains if the light disturbs you.
Iveco, pile of pooh.
personally speaking the DAF is the one for me. just remember that that DAF has got a third step…

no, sorry can’t say the word

NEVER!!!
i was in the blue DAF XF SSSSSSC on the M40 northbound, you was heading south, was pulling a green 40’ box, did flash and wave
oh, and if it is the XF SSC that you can get, grab it
i love mine (although my older 05 was a better truck i think!) i think they are underpowered a bit, but i dont care as i sleep in the cab not on the engine, and the bunk and the seats i think are great. although i have never driven a new iveco, my opinion was that the old ones were a waste of metal, and from what i have seen of the newer ones (and the experience of our subbys ones falling to bits in under a year) they still are
