Daf lf 55 fuel pump leaking

Hi there new to the forum and looking for a little bit of help iam 24 and run my own skip business with a daf lf55 i noticed that oil was dripping out of the breather last week after further investigation and draining the oil over 20 liters when i only put in 19.5 a month ago the oil is very thin and smells of diesel, so i took the rocker cover of to have a visual look and ive found a few little green rubber o ring seals which have been chewed up and floating in the oil, iam i right in thinking that the fuel pump shaft seal might of failed causing fuel to drip into the oil any help would be very much appreciated thanks

May be injector seals causing the issue or a faulty injector/s…Never known he pump cause it but ,there is always a first…If oil is dripping out of the breather ,you probably have a bigger problem ,it may have picked up In one of the cylinders causing back
pressure…If you remove the filler cap or dipstick are you getting pressure,if so it will be a Cylinder head of to check the bores

Fuel leak under rocker cover somewhere.

thanks for the reply there is no back pressure coming out of the filler cap and once i replace the oil to the correct 19.5l the oil stops coming out the breather the reason it comes out of the filler is because the fuel adding to the oil make the level to high i think,

If it was a leaky injector how would that getting into the oil thanks darcy

If you have an injector with a faulty seat fuel would leak by ,if the injector O ring had failed and the tube that goes in to the injector is not seated correctly or has erosion again fuel would leak in to the engine…The fuel return runs in the cylinder head so for example a crack in the head may cause it ,note I have never seen that scenario …Or if fuel is passing through the high pressure pump in to the engine

So logically look at the parts of the fuel system that are connected directly to the engine …which are the pump and injectors,so they are technically the only parts where fuel can leak from in to the engine

Now if you can make up a fuel cap and connect it to a air regulator .if you pressurise the fuel tank that will pressurise the fuel system…With the rocker cover off you may possibly see ,fuel leakage ,or with the sump off you may see it running down a cylinder…or fro the area of the pump …pressure wise you are only looking at .2 to .3 of a bar

really appreciate the help ive brought some new o rings for the injector feed pipe which i about 70% that’s what is causing the problem i will report back after the weekend once i get time to strip it down,
is there a way to bleed the diesel or is it just crank it over a few times and crack the injectors of thanks darcy

It should start pretty easy …You would be better just replacing the tubes themselves ,once fitted they are then matched with that injector and should stay with it…If they are not tight enough the end will show sign of erosion…I have never know them to dump fuel in the engine ,when they fail you usually get excess leak off

I think I would just get the injectors tested TBH.

As I think I’ve said on this forum quite a lot in the past people quite easily slip in to the trap of replacing all sorts of filters and bits between the diesel tank and the engine only to find it’s injectors all along.

sorry been really busy this week but iam going to get the injectors tested i think iam gona try run the engine without the rocker cover to see if i can pin point which one is causing the problem ill report back asap thanks for the reply’s

hi had the injectors tested this week and 4 of them was faulty and one of them was leaking diesel out of the pressure relief ball bearing in the side of the injector so that’s what is causing the diesel in the oil , so i have changed 4 injectors for new bosch one but now iam getting a miss fire on tick over which brings the engine light on and puts the lorry in limp mode it drives fine if you keeps the revs up gona get the obd scanner on it today to see what we have, anything eles i could check while iam waiting for the man to come scan it thanks

you have definitely not made an error putting one of the injectors In ■■? did you remember to put the wiring on the all

yeah ive put the wiring on correct and check every thing that i can it runs fine until the engine gets up to temperature then small miss fire and still runs fine but just goes into limp mode and some white smoke comes from the exhaust
