That one looks like it only just missed out being an ATi

Hi Wheelnut ,
your dead right there - this one was registered in 85 , the first ATis came out 86 so the first ones were also ‘C’ reg. as the Kammac pics show .
Was never a fan of early DAFs myself what with the 'umbrella handle gear lever that occasionsly wrapped your knuckles :smiling_imp: no headroom & fixed steering wheel , Wasn’t a huge fan of the engines either,I thought lacking in torque & DAFs ‘hyped’ up horse power figures  When my 3300 was off the road i had a hired in M.A.N. 331 with a 13speed fuller :sunglasses: Seriously didn’t want to give it back :grimacing:

My Turkish Spec 3300 bought from Alan Johnson of ASJ transport Braintree who drove it for several years running to M.E and then to Russia.
Maintained for many years by Steve Grey of Greyhound commercials. (now retired to Thailand). I was an ASJ subbie for Kepstowe running to Russia for a few years before selling it to a turk for export and replaced it with a 95 space cab. The 3300 had twin 600litre running tanks and two large tool boxes behind the cab.

That’s Paul Binn’s 3300, he bought that after he passed his test, used to ride around in an 814 sleeper cabbed Merc before that, it had so much stuff on it that it had a payload of a ton  That Daf was originally in the pre Europa colours of EVS (European Van services) white with 3 blue wedge stripes up the side, it looked better then

Tony, I make you right about them not pulling, the broom handle gearstick was a PITA too, if you went into the 3rd gear slot it knocked the indicator on  I had a few 2800/3300s, first was a day cab on a T plate with that evil ZF constant mesh splitter box that you had to use every gear in or it just made crunching noises until you stopped, the ink on my licence wasn’t dry so I loved it, next up was a 2800DKSE, the economy model with a 9sp Fuller, that was ok. but wouldn’t pull a greasy stick out of a dogs arse, last was a 3300 ATI, did my first trip to Italy in that, so it has special memories & apart from the day cab of course, the 2800/3300 had the best bottom bunk mattress ever

HI newmercman ,
Your spot on there , the pic was actually taken just after it’s respray in 87 . I got it just after i passed my test :grimacing: when Binns’y bought a second hand 142 for Chris Barker [the previous driver] subbing for Roadferry . The Daf was actually on contract hire from Roy Bros [ a right bundle of laughs ]@ Cogenhoe . The motor looked nice but the job was crap :smiling_imp: But i was only 21 then & wet behind the ears :grimacing:

Hi Gaz, it was a 6x2 with the DAF hydraulic bogie lift similar to that fitted to scania’s. It had also been fitted with heavy duty multi leaf front springs which raised the front end a fair bit. As i said in my previous post it was maintained for the most part of its life by Steve Grey and i dont think that there is a single nut or bolt on the truck that he has not had a spanner on at one time or another and some many times. Due to the very poor road surfaces on the routes that it ran its a wonder that it lasted as many years as it did. these photo’s were taken in the B&Q car park which was across the road from Kepstowe’s warehouse in Wandsworth SW London when the truck was Twelve years old and still doing two Moscow’s a month. I will try and dig out some other photo’s. regards Jamie.

pmsl  nice to see the photos of alan’s old motor - still loyal to his dafs even now

Not a very exciting picture, it was taken enroute to Italy in the 80’s when i was working for JWQ in Reading, the other motor was a 310 Renault so you’re not missing much with it being out of view  . All in all i liked the Dafs never let me down.
