When I was on holiday in April in Germany, we had a day trip to Hamburg (middle child wanted to see Miniatur Wunderland). When we left there, and headed back towards the autobahn, driving along the normal roads, we ended up at a Customs checkpoint, just before getting onto the sliproad - we were waved past via what semed to be a carpark, whilst the artic behind us stopped at the checkpoint, and got a visit from a rather attractive young female officer.
Just wondered what it was all about - seemed an odd thing to have on a normal road, and especially seemed odd to have a car diversion via their car park - unless I had wandered into a sealed area somehow?
know one driver bought 600 ■■■■ in belgium on way out entered free port by mistake
major problem as already had goods from somewhere else in hamburg on board
took 4 hours to get out and 400 ■■■■ taken off him
I made that mistake once.
Always used to look at that bridge thinking how nice it looked when i was heading up and down from Denmark.
Well i was delivering not far from there and decided to go over it for old times sake,oh dear, what a mistake!!
Spent an hour explaining to the lovely and very attractive young customs lady what i’d done and thank god she took pity on me and let me go after an inspection.
Why when things like that happened in the old Bundesrepublik,i always had the same line going through my head “for you Tommy ze war is over!”
If transiting the Freihafen with goods on board, stop at the Zoll on the way in and take your load documents to the office.
They will put a customs seal on your papers, along with your entry time and you are then free to transit the port.
They allow a certain amount of transit time and at the other side, if you are within this time window (ie haven’t stopped to tip or load), they will remove the customs seal from your papers and off you go…
