Cummins compressor

Has anyone changed a compressor on a ■■■■■■■ engine as mines dicided to call it a day .just wondering how difficult a job it is .is it something to have a go at yourself or better to put it in a garage .

Which ■■■■■■■ engine? N, L, M, C, B, V and I are the main automotive variant models. Even engines with the PT fuel system are supposed to have the compressor timed.

If it’s not timed right it will rattle,it would be worth getting a twin piston whilst your doing as the air will build up on tick over in literally 2 mins also a twin pot dosent need timing .

It’s the ism engine with the later bigger compressor been told it doesn’t need timing up nor does the fuel pump so is it a case of trying to get the old one off n getting the new one on no nothing to difficult required

not a difficult job, compressor is not timed, neither is fuel pump, couple of awkward bolts on the engine block side, think a “c” spanner is required, there is a support bracket on pump which has to come off, fit new gaskets & water pipe seals, make sure oil feed for compressor doesn’t get blocked off by gasket fitted wrong way around, replace plastic fuel pump drive at same time, take about 4-5 hours,

Not a bad job but fiddly, the main point as mentioned above is to ensure you replace the splined sleeve that drives the compressor as these occasionally wear and jump splines which isn’t ideal as it also drives the fuel pump.

job done thanks for the feedback had ago and got it done thanks ,but now one of the two fuel pipes that go into the engine has sheered any idea how to get this out no idea whats behind it or if its just wound in or if its attached to something on the inside its the part that the pipe winds onto .one thing after another

Can we have more pictures please? It is not clear whether this is a fuel feed or return pipe, nor is it clear whether it is a male/male adapter which has broken, or whether it is the male end of the pipe itself. This is going to need a GREAT DEAL of care since if you get swarf in the passages of the fuel galleries the results will be expensive.

I would recommend getting hold of the replacement pipe and/or adapter before tackling the job. The fuel pipes always have been a weak point on any ■■■■■■■ engine, they seem to shear off as soon as you look at them unless they are treated like glass.

edit: spelling!

A bit of gentle heat and a easy out may be .
