Possibly a long shot, but anyone know who’s operating the B-Reg 142 down the coast at West ■■■■■■■■ Saw it twice last week down near Sellafield pulling a tipper, nice to see still earning a living.

Was pure white with a red bumper iirc.

Hi Bewick, Here are a few photos of Gods country taken this morning above the banks of t Ellen, not for paddling in today, on the road frae Bowtonyet til Snow Hill. These roads have been closed for almost 3 days as was the main A 595 from Red Dial to Mealsgate for two one because of an accident at Bolton Toll Bar then most of Friday night and Saturday due to snow drifts.321

Good shots L600,I don’t think it has been the actual snow fall but the bloody strong East wind blowing it off the land, our usual prevailing wind is from the S.West off the sea and warmer.Just shows you what kind of winters we would get if the wind did swing around to the East permanent eh! Cheers Bewick.

The last motor I had to dig out was a 6x2 FL10 on top of Bowes Moor,it was like a Foxes Glacier mint, the blower had been up each side of it,but there was no damage,we cracked it up and let it tick over while me and our fitter dug all the snow out from under it,nowt like a bit of digging snow to keep you warm eh!Cheers Dennis.PS I bet you also used your shovel for clearing the BS at Bradys as well Frank!!! :sunglasses:

And Dennis, I wish it was one of mine!

I dug this shot out from “the archive”,it is our very first 38tonner April '83 UEC600Y/Crane Fruehauf tri axle T90 brand spanking, loaded with 26tons of reels from the Mill at Beetham.I took the shot on A590 looking towards the M6 J36,Farleton Knot rising in the background.Cheers Bewick.

Dennis, re the shovel, I have carried one every winter since 1973, it has got me (and others) out of trouble many times. I took it out of the cab a couple of weeks ago but put it back in again last weekend, I didn’t need it but it was there just in case. Lots of drivers took the ■■■■ over the years but it was (IMO) as essential as my flask and winter coat. Ps this is definitly the last year I will need it. No more working winters!!!  . Regards Kev.

I wouldn’t have expected anything less from you Kev having been in the Boy Scouts as long as you were  i.e. Motto,“be prepared” That Volvo we dug out on Bowes had been there for a couple of days, the driver was back home so me and the fitter went up in the 4x4 pick-up to bring it down home!!We had a number of our drivers that, like you, carried a shovel in winter, especially the ones that ran to Scotland regular,■■■■ the “■■■■ takers” Kev they worked on the theory that it will never happen to “me” but when it did they were up “■■■■ street” without a shovel eh! Cheers Dennis.

I may have put this shot on another thread,so what ! Probably a mid 70’s shot in the Milnthorpe depot, not a Gardner engine in sight only ■■■■■■■ 180/205’s/220’s great ! :sunglasses: Cheers Bewick

Hi Kevmac, like you I always carried a shovel in winter including appropriate footwear and clothes in my Mickey Mouse Foden 8 legger however one spring weekend early April I cleaned out the cab disposing of the shovel etc . Mondaymorning delivered paper to Haltwhistle then to Riding Mill and up over Kiln Pit Hill and down to Shotley Bridge. Surprise surprise in began to snow like hell climbing out of Ridig Mill and after turningdown towards Shotley Field I espied a Venture bus coming towards me down the hill to the narrow bridge,I was decending the opposite side when we slid together mirrors just touching. I then had great difficulty getting up the other side and of course no shovel when there was any amount of grit available. I did not make that mistake in following years. As the saying goes, “Never cast a cloot til May is oot” !!!
Cheers Leyland 600
