Hi dew,
Well,…I might know a little bit about Kendal area hauliers ,…but…not everything .

I have often wondered if the two " Gibson " firms might be related/connected in ways other than surname .
I can remember about 4 or 5 years ago that M.G.D. reduced his artic fleet after a haulage contract suddenly ceased,
but I can`t think which of the Kendal-based chilled -produce factories it was.

I hope this helps in solving your question.

Note the Kendal Crest on the cab side panels. I wonder if Dennis proudly wore this Crest on his
Kendal Grammar School blazer ? :unamused: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

Cheers, cattle wagon man.

 Fair enough I wondered if you might know, besides the name and having hards practically back to back with each other on Mintsfeet.

We use MGD for servicing our vans so go in and out of there a bit, I’ll try to get a pic of the XF as it was tidy. Prior to that was an Iveco Stralis, and before that a V8 Actros.

A 3.5T of MGDs we sometimes borrow if they’re working on ours!

How do you load Tarmac in the back of a Boxvan DEW?Are you mending potholes or summat,I bet it’s a hellof a mess in the van!! Cheers Dennis.

I’m not on the tarmac job yet, that’s my dads job for now. Starting off smaller to build up experience

So if your not laying Tarmac over Dandilions what are you doing flying about in a luton van, working for David Willan ? mines a “Meat and Tattie” if you are !!    Dennis.

Not quite, delivering bread for small outfit out of Holme Mills. We deliver to Willian’s ourselves though ironically!

It was just a random guess Dew! :sunglasses: ,we once had a driver that worked at Bewick Transport from Blackpool and his “nick name” was Breadman,he used to work for Wonderloaf, came into our depot two or three times a week for twelve months begging for a start which he eventually got on an 82 and he mainly ran out of Walki Converters at Garstang! Cheers Dennis.

Thats the annoying bit, if companies like yours were still going I’d stand a far better chance of getting somewhere in this industry, as it stands it’s a ■■■■ hard road!

Dennis you gave him an 82, did you really dislike him that much,
thanks harry, long retired.

Hi all,

I apologize in advance of this question has already been asked further down the forum as I couldn’t find anything on it.

Basically I was just wondering if anyone has any pics of John Goddard Haulage of Carlisle.

Thanks!!

Hey,hod on a bit “H”!! This lad was a total greenhorn and was most grateful for a start at Bewick Transport at the time !!And the 82 was a very different “go to work” than the 80/81,the 82 was IIRC a 230 BHP machine which was a lump bigger than a “Wonderloaf” bread van !! Now if “H” Gill came through the gates looking for a job he would have started on,now lets see?.an 8LXC ERF or Sed/Atk or maybe a 111,or on second thoughts what about that old tired 80 in the corner, what was that you shouted “H” when you were going out of the gates “------------ it where the Monkey stuck the nuts” very nice !!! :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Sad to hear that Billy Park who drove for Colin Carruthers, Oulton, Wigton died on Monday of a heart attack aged 57, he was a nice bloke who was always good for a crack, and a “proper” driver. RIP Bill.
