Hello Lawrence Dunbar,
Mandales Transport where part of a local building supplies company called Thomas Mandale Ltd of South Quay Maryport. Originally they ran a fleet of around 20 Commers with flat and dropside bodies. The company had branches at Maryport, Workington, Whitehaven & (I think) Cockermouth. Mandales married into the Gun Family of Whitehaven and they bought out Mandales share in the company. There’s now no remains of Guns Builders Merchants or Thomas Mandales Yard at Maryport. The yard was on Irish Street is now a Car Park. Thomas Mandales also owned a building on the Dock Side call the ■■■■■■■■■■ Shed, which was where they stored Concrete Powder, which at that time, was shipped into Maryport Docks, and in fact, it turn out to be the last ever major ships into Maryport.
Sorry, no photos of the lorries.
Hope this is of some interest.

■■■■■■■■■■ and Westmorland ( pre April 1974 boundary changes ) has always been known as one of the finest areas in the country for …, sheep ! There were many livestock hauliers in the area who transported these breeding sheep during the busy autumn sales period.
Sadly , most of these hauliers have either passed on , or their businesses have diversified away altogether from livestock haulage. I would be most grateful if anyone could post
photos of such long-gone hauliers as :
Alderson & Huddart, Appleby.
Fellside Transport, Lazonby .
J.G. Thirlwall , Croglin.
George Steadman , Kirkby Thore.
Jim Sowerby, Soulby , Kirkby Stephen.
Barnes & Nelson, Kendal.
Stan Stewardson , Hawkshead.
Harry and Bob Walling , Crosthwaite , Kendal .
Frank Whitehead , Reagill, Shap.
I know this is a request repeated from the earlier pages on here , but with a few more names added to the list.
Many thanks,
Cheers, cattle wagon man.
What became of Jonhtson,s of Gillcrux, quite a big firm at one time with their Mercs, they used to get into the Carnation Milk Factory at Dumfries 50s60s , thats when work was plentifull and wagons were getting better from a drivers point of view.Regards Larry

Your right there Vic,probably Silloth would be about as far that CG would venture, and if there’s a special needs B & B we might be able to fix “carryfast” up with a week in Silloth as-well ! I’m sure his carers would qualify on the respite scheme!!! Cheers Dennis.
