Bollox, old Bob Henderson would be turning in his grave if he thought such a motor had appeared in his fleet, they were big Leyland men and then Gardner forever!! Bewick.

I would be in my grave now if I’ve had to deal with Gardners engines, couldn’t stand them myself give me a RR any day. I do agree with you about having Leylands (namely Scammell Crusaders) over ERF’s.

Seen on the A595 near Cockermouth today.

The Leyland at Hendersons I was talking about was a pre Lad cabbed Octopus with Screamer box. Cheers Bewick.

You are a Masochist “Guy”, if Bob Henderson could hear you asking if Hendy’s ever ran poxy Crusaders he would be hurling himself at the Pearly Gates trying to come back down to “put you straight” the very thought of what you suggest is blasphemy !! Cheers Bewick.

Where is the “Gashdale Flyer” nowadays, he’s keeping a very low profile, and GMS has a few waggon loads of lambs to go to auction and he can’t find a livestock haulier to cater for him, terrible, if Tommy C. was still operating he would have had Tony there in a crack, one load and not two which a Carrier bantam would have had to do.   :open_mouth: :open_mouth:     Anon 1.

Aye ,… hes still here , Dennis . GMS is in poor health nowadays , according to his son. I dont think they have any Roughs for Shows now , as none were exhibited by them at the Westmorland County Show yesterday.

Trusting you are keeping well , Dennis .

Cheers , cattle wagon man.

Hi Dennis, speaking of Dunmail Raise I knew of a ■■■■■■■■■■ Motor Services driver from Maryport taking a local excursion south over the Raise who also had an American tourist couple on board and as you know there is a large heap of big stones on the Raise summit. As the coach passed the American guy says , " Say driver, whats that large heap of stones doing there in the middle of the dual carriagway is that where they reckon King Dunmail king of ■■■■■■■■■■ is buried ?" Our intrepid answers in broad dialect " Oh no Marra it just a greet heap o stanes left theer be,t [zb] when they mead t new rod" !! So much for an informative driver and ancient history.
Cheers Leyland 600

Brilliant. My step father told me just about the same!

Hiya Roy, yes OK mate hope you and your “better half” are the same ! I have maybe told you this tale about GMS previously which was related to me by some Farmer friends from Selside. Well apparently Geoffrey had this great Tup in the 70’s, best he’d bred for a long while, but it was only a “three legged’un” lame as a dog so to enable it to be sound on a Show day he 'd give it a couple of Bute tablets which got it sound for the duration of a show day :open_mouth: Apparently he had great success with this tup at the time and only let the cat “out of the bag” a few years later ! These farmers will go any lengths to win a ticket,I bet Capsticks wouldn’t have been very happy if they’d found out at the time eh! Cheers Dennis.

Quite obviously you were ■■■■■■ Hodge when you put this shot on  :open_mouth: Anyhow is that a shot of an earlier motor Gordy had or is it an up to date one ? I can recall Gordy when he’d be about 9 or 10 riding shotgun in his Dad’s Ergo cabbed Albion Reiver when they ran out of Smith Bros.in 68/69.Lang time ago eh! Happy Days though! Cheers Dennis.

Robsons, it appears to be loading bottles at United Glass.

Talking about Alston, makes me reminisce about J H Henderson & Sons, a fleet of green ERF’s based in Alston. How they coped on the A689 is beyond me. J H Henderson & Sons also owned a garage in Alston, not too sure if they are still in business.

Hendersons motors very rarely ran up to Alston, they were based at Langwathby near Penrith and that side of the firm was managed by Tony Henderson the son of Bob who was a son of the founder J.H…Yes they did have a Garage business in Alston to-gether with a Rootes dealership and I believe this part of the operation was managed by Tony’s cousin. Tony’s brother Malcolm was a Police constable in Kendal during the 60’s and 70’s.They were a great old fashioned firm of many years standing, the last I heard of Tony was that he was running a Limo fleet from Langwathby but I’m not too sure about the Alston end. Cheers Bewick.

Here is a fine photo of a JH Henderson with a RR 265 engine

I doubt you would see many Hendersons parked up at the Hartside Cafe, Alston! Did Henderson haul from the cement plant near Alston? Now sadly closed.
