I dont know if this story has already circulated throughout the haulage industry , but todays ■■■■■■■■■■ & Westmorland Herald newspaper has the following headline :

" Petition to wind up Penrith haulage company ".

It refers to Dent Company, based (recently) at Edenhall, near Penrith.

According to the report , the H.M.R.C. made a petition on October 4 th., and there is to be a hearing at the Royal Courts of Justice , London, on Monday as to whether the company will be wound up , putting it into liquidation.

Does anyone know if there had been any earlier rumours/suggestions concerning the Dent Company`s difficult financial standing ?

Cheers , cattle wagon man.

would imagine Mr Jenkinson will be rubbing his hands…

Sad news Dent’s were one of ■■■■■■■■■ finest hauliers, hopefully Jenkinson will buy them out.

Although it was dark last night at the time,I don’t think my eyes were decieving me but I’m sure I met what looked like a freshly painted and lettered powder tanker/artic in mainly white but with red and blue trim and black lettering “OSTLE”,has Sammy or one of his family started up again in the business,I sure wasn’t dreaming ! Cheers Bewick.

Aren’t they something to do with Turners of Poland Cough Soham these days?

John Dixon and his son Bill were livestock hauliers and animal feeds suppliers until the mid 1960`s.
They were based in Old Hutton , near Kendal , where son Bill ( shown looking proud in photograph ) still lives.
The Two-Stroke engined Commer was bought new in 1959 , and was still relatively new when the photo was taken.

Stan Stewardson , from Hawkshead , bought the much-coveted " A Licence" .

Hello I’m new round here but cwm should know who I am, I used to work for bill picking eggs on his hen farm, I’m also fairly sure mr bibbs will know mr dixons son quite well!

And now I’ve finished reading the thread right though, I can inform you all today I caught CWM taking a snap of a 9 year old wagon, Does this mean I have to wait a year to see it on here ? Kind regards, strawgalore

Hi Strawgalore ,
If you speak politely ,…then youll see your "Hay Train" on here in a couple of weeks time . :sunglasses:   ( or maybe sooner !! ).
Oh, by the way, Strawgalore…welcome to TNUK.

Cheers , cattle wagon man.

I always do my best to be polite cwm, but I have to admit I sometimes fail!

Hi Strawgalore ,
Aye , you were asking politely , of course . Nobbut just a wind-up .

Im still hoping to snap a photo of you as you "skim" your load when passing under the low branches of the tree a few doors below our bungalow . The trees owners have free supply of straw bedding for their rabbits !!!

Can your Dad remember Bill Dixon owning the Commer ?

Cheers , cattle wagon man.

Bit of a trailer mix up with these two CG. One at Scotch Corner and one on the Atlantic Highway in Cornwall.

Further to my mentioning of Dent Company`s financial problems , the Company is continuing to trade, according to
the " ■■■■■■■■■■ & Westmorland Herald" newspaper.

The report states that the HMRCs Hearing application to wind-up Dent Company was dismissed at the High Court of Justice. Dents said the debt was “paid in advance of the Hearing” , so the HMRC petition was dismissed.

This ■■■■■■■■ hauliers well-presented Scania was parked in Brough, a couple of miles from Warcop , over Easter weekend, when I took the photograph. Maybe too far from ■■■■■■■■ Gills hometown for him to expand on any details.

Cheers , cattle wagon man.

Hello CWM

Certainly not to far marra for me to explain further!

According to my records, Heron run 4 Scania R Topline’s ( 3 R620’s and 1 R560).

They work for T R Handley on bulk haulage work out of Shap Quarry.

They company seems to buy all its trucks new and sell them on privately and they seem to buy new tippers
too.

Hope this helps marra

Kindest regards
CG

Herons have walking floors as well as tippers and the main of the work is through hastings at penrith

Hi “Cochrane 798” ,
Welcome to TNUK., and enjoy .
Thanks for the info ., re: Heron.I know there is a farming family of the same name in Warcop , so possibly this is of the same.

Sometimes “■■■■■■■■ Gill” types fantasy and guesswork rather than obtain the full facts beforehand. :frowning:
He`s stuck in his cocoon in west ■■■■■■■ , and is unable to break from that shell, therefore we must allow for his misgivings. :frowning:
