Cullompton Motorway Service Area

I’ve always been puzzled as to why Cullompton Motorway Service Area is only signposted when travelling northbound on the M5.

Travelling southbound there are no signs for it al all, and two miles before the Cullompton exit there is a sign stating “Services 15 miles” which refers to Exeter services.

Any ideas?

They don’t want any foreigners from up north going in there

Or alternatively the lorry park isn’t big enough for a lot of trucks

The first idea seems plausible, the second one less so… Maidstone services has less parking spaces and that’s signposted from both directions

Presume that was you on Tuesday morning, Okehampton sort of thing?

It’s just the way things are done down ere Harry. If you continue to question it you’ll be banned. Now hush.

Cullompton was recently refurbished but it is only signed from the northbound side so as not to overload the junction. Southbound traffic can access it from J28 just like northbound.

its to stop the grookles coming off and then getting lost lol

Thats if they can find the exit when they actually get into the service area. Lost count of the number of wobbleboxes I seen doing several point turns at bottom end whenthey realise the exit is the same way they came in. Thats assuming of course that they haven’t parked in the caravan park right the bloody entrance to the services and decide to use the lorry park instead.

August bank holiday friday I ended up blocking up the caravan park because they’d allowed every other road user to use the lorry park. One artic was trapped in the lorry park, don’t know how long he was there but I left before he did.

Yes, I do think that both Cullompton and Taunton Deane should be re-named “caravan parking areas” between May and September.

they are going to be sponsored by the caravan club next year

one of our drvers use to be on reefers, his trick was to pull in there on a friday night late with a empty set the temp to -20 and then run to the services for a shower, stand by the door and watch as his fridge fired up and all the lights come on laughing like a pixie

Never been there. And now I’m unlikely to. Do they serve rat infested pie ? Looks like they do.
A tip for cullompton. If your early enough , instead of going into “services” head over roundabout as if going into town. Immediately turn left on to a small ind est. park alongside fence for free and enjoy a nice meal in the pub at the top of the lane.
