Morning all. There’s a lot of work in construction and road building in my area at the moment. Most of the jobs are class 2 tipper work and road maintenance work. Does anyone know what type of CSCS card I need for this kind of work? I didn’t realise there were so many different types of card. Cheers.
I dont have a card but have done class 2 tipper work on new build doad works ,retail car parks school playgrounds and general road repair.I have never been aked for an epic or CSCS card.I think that you can do some of those “courses” at home on your own computer.

Good morning Breaker One Nine.
The C.S.C.S Plant certificates. Like the H.G.V. entitlement, they come into different
categories according mainly weight capacity. I recently enquired locally about getting
licenced for a 360 on tracks at the 10 tonne class. They ( she ) came back with the quote
of:- Practical… £500; Theory… £100… H & S Attendant £75…
On the right contract, the money’s good and the more machine tickets you have, the better.
Good Luck.

Unless things have changed in the last couple of years then you only need a cscs card for plant vehicles or to be out of a vehicle ie on the carriageway. With tipper work,as long as you are always in the cab and never step outside it (including having a banksman open the rear door) then you don’t need this card. I used to do class 2 tipper work and never needed a cscs card.
As far as I know anyway
…Sorry!!!
… Think I misread the tread!!!..** & oops again…
I do low loader work driving all sorts of plant on and off the lorry on all kinds of sites, never been asked if I’ve got a ticket. Which is justice well really, cos I haven’t got one.
EPIC is a bit like the Tesco passport thing, but for quarry operators. I’ve had one since they were first introduced, but never been asked to show it. Despite this I’ve been to Hanson, Cemex, Lafarge, and Aggregate Industries sites. The course goes towards DCPC and is about as hard as poking a knitting needle through a wet bog roll.
I’ve never had a CSCS for tippers, or been asked although I did have the old version (CITB) for various earthmoving machines. I have seen agency tipper vacancies asking for it though.
CSCS, card is a health and safety test done on a touch screen, about £18 if I remember right.
Just the operative test should be ok to get on site
, we do the highways option, the same basic style of questions as the operative test, then with some highway works questions as well.
CPCS is the card for operating plant, I think the is one for lorry loader, and one for loading/unloading plant, the only ones I can think off to do with driving a truck.
You need a valid cscs health and safety test to get a cpcs card, or renew it.
