As the title says I’ve reached a crossroads now .having been a courier for a couple of years now I have got used to doing things my way .but now the customer i was having all my work off has decided to go with the big outfits at prices I simply can’t compete with i need to make a decision. The said customer was giving me a nice split of work between my van and there 18 tonner so I thought I could still do that with the lorry work coming from agency and the van work off courier companies. I have since found out that agency’s won’t let me do the work unless I’m Ltd or paye so do I just concentrate on my courier work or just work for agency’s. I know a lot of you will say only you know the answer but I would like someone else’s opinion as I may be missing something. Sorry for the long post thanks mick
Well sorry, but it is your call. . I guess it’s difficult to go and work for an agency when you are used to working for yourself. Myself, I’d want to make a go of it with the van. What’s the option of getting new customers? I know the market is even more cut throat than with trucks. I think I’d be trying to concentrate on ‘ugly’ freight; we did OK with shifting 3-4 meter plastic trunking that the people who wanted to move a few boxes didn’t like.
