Crockerton haulage

Great pictures love the one of Dad and Phill the Transcon looks great

The pictures are absolutely brilliant. Thanks a lot for sharing them with us Paul. They’ve given me the motivation to get my finger out and post the only picture I could find of my Dad’s old wagon, at the Alloa Gala Day around about 1981

Iain,

Great picture. I remember your dad

A few pics that have been dug out…

Churchboy ( Barry/Phil … can’t remember exactly after all these years ?) is that you in the pic with your trousers at half mast ? I worked at Matthew Clark, Widnes for over 11 years. That pic was taken outside 9A Warehouse where we stored bonded Martell Brandy.

I only found this site a few days ago while doing some research prior to going for my C & C+E and put a search of Crokertons. Didn’t think for one minute anything would come up.

I remember you, Paul White and “Tiny” who had a dodgy leg. Those were good times…lousey wages but great fun, was just like a big family…Playing poker every morning break, lunch and afternoon break.

Do you remember Jimmy Peterson the Warehouse Manager, chubby “Ginger”, Stevie Linforth, Rob and Peter (me) ?

Matthew Clarks closed back in 1989 and we are all still in touch with each other and about to have a reunion after 21 years. A few have sadly passed away but are all remembered fondly

best regards

Pete

Pete,

That is my dad with his trousers down. He is on this site ‘justbazza’ & has posted on this thread.

I was only a kid back then, but I remember Ginger well. I also remember your canteen there - the ladies who ran it were brilliant

Regards.

Paul, I remember you coming in with your dad a few times.

The ladies in the canteen were Agnes & Joan. They were like a female Morcambe & Wise. The favorite meal they would cook up for us was Chips, Mushy Peas, Spam Roll & Gravy. Sounds awful but was really tasty.

Sadly Ginger passed away quite a few years ago. Me, Rob & Stevie were the lads on the flt’s.

Stevie ate, slept & breathed hgv’s and always dreamed for getting his class 1. He eventually did pass & left Clarks shortly after passing. He was sadly killed in a warehouse accident, in Widnes a few years ago when he was struck by an flt driven by some guy from abroad. The guy fled the country before the court case.

Rob works in the workshop of Bristol Street Motor Nation in Widnes. I spent 11 years with Cheshire Police then went into Benefit Fraud Investigations. I settled down recently with a Polish girl and now have a business in a town just south of Poznan, in Poland so commute between uk & Poland quite a lot. Thats why I’m going after my C+E. Still early days for that though.

I’m looking forward to catching up with your dad on here. I have a few pics of him with Stevie loading his wagon, Agnes & Joan in the canteen and all the rest of the crew. If I can find them I will post them on here for you & your dad.

regards

Pete

Look forward to it!

Some photos of Phil’s old Scania & Transcon…

Cheers Paul i said to dad that one day i will learn how to work this thing.

Love that scania phill looks nice what ever happened to that light blue one I sold that bloke on there WHJ190S thats the only motor Ihad that ive only got one picture of got loads of the others but only one of that parked outside Gordons next to the Sed Atki VLL365S which was Barrys I had more adventures in that sed atki than any other motor I have had Like comming back from Milford Haven with no windscreen in a parka and dark glasses
and took a gf with me to warrington on night out went to get in bed curtains drawn thought here we go and my nylon sleeping bag slid and my feet pushed the ■■■■■■■ side window out spent rest night trying get the window in And another time in the frezzing cold lit my funny gas night heaters they done then looked like a fcking kebab stove nice and warm when a bloke said think you got a water leek mate all water ■■■■■■■ out your rad well I had just done me anti freeze so upt the cab a little found it few turns on the hose when I thought what that smell me coat slid of that poxy nylon sleeping bag and fell on the kebab burner and melted the plastic sleeve on me fonzy type base ball coat what was all the go then so next day I am tipping with a long sleeve and a short one lol

Ken,

That is funny especially the kebab burner scenario!

I thought that VLL had a nightheater? Maybe I am confusing it with another motor, as I recall that the odd night that I spent in it as a kid, it was bloody freezing!
Slumped across the middle on a piece of foam - great days.

The Scania that you refer to, did it have a black chassis? I think Steve Kelty (Animal) bought it.

Hello Ken you sold that Scania to Johnny Bryan he ran it for a few years then saw the light and packed up me and Barry soldier on for a while after that then i called it a day Barry had a bad smash in Scotland and funny enough John was with him after he had a bad accident at Birdlip hill when working for J B Woodcock.

Spot on Phil - I remember that vehicle now.
Forgot that JB went as an o/d. That was one very nice motor that he purchased from Elstrans.

I remember JB he worked for me for a while but I seem to rember that Scanny went to a bloke called Bob or Paul

Churchyboy…ask your Dad, if he remembers back in 82/83 a driver in one of Crockerton Sed/Atki coming out of the yard and running into the back of one of Forest Freight’s new Bedford ridgids and his windscreen fell out, because an F88, waiting to tip at FF, had started up and he couldn’t see through the smoke.

Phil and aba arry you were both right I saw Gordon today and JB did bythat 111 christ knows where I got Bob and Paul from

Hello Kenny you got the name Paul because Paul White bought it from Johnny B.

Dieseldogsix the driver of the Sed Ak was Allan Lloyd the firm had just spent a fortune on it new panels and a respray and it had just at that moment come out of the paintshop he was told to pick a trailer up from outside wharehouse number 6 and Allen never went anywhere slowly i think the 88 belonged to old Joe Wisdom and FF never had a yard on Maybells it was Bernhards who FF worked for Oh and the Sed AK was written off.

Well I was the driver of the said F88 infact I owned it, and I was tipping at FF. because I just checked it in my diary and it was next to Crockertons because a fitter with long hair came out to have a look. we used to tip FF every week with International Express Services groupage from Eindhoven.

I stand corrected sir i dont remember FF being near us but i am old and my brain is not what it used to be .
