chazzer:
I would have said looking at the trailer sides and the metal mudguards visible in the background that it could be a Bulgarian or Turkish trailer, certainly the two men sitting down look to be from that neck of the woods.
I thought Bulgarian when I saw the picture, looks like one of the old Somat trailers, although the colour scheme is similar to CSAD, who were from Checko, whatever, that jacket is deffo from east of the Iron Curtain (hope that isn’t your Dad wearing it Boatchaser )
No it wasn,t Dad always drove in a shirt and tie took years to get him to stop wearing the tie god love him, spent many a day with him. What he would think of driving here (Calgary) i don,t know. We have a lot of traffic going in and out of our depot so much different to when i worked in the UK
I started from Calgary this morning! Tipped a load of pork on 56 Ave SE, where do you work?
Morning Newmercman
Moved hear in 2007 and already had a job to go too , and have been there since i work for Genco on the Canadian Tire contract near the flying j and the deerfoot casino 114 st
I’ll PM you the next time I’m on my way over there, we can meet up for a bottle or two of Frizzante

HUll backbyfriday,
Yes I remember all of those blokes, with them all together that must have been very early Eighties, they are all a few years younger than me, but you may know my two eldest lads, they were both on for me. Nick lived at Carisio with Margeritha from the Garonne, and later drove one of those heart scanner trailers around. Kev just drove, but was always a couple of days late through Frizzantiitis.
Cheers, Archie.
aint be on here for a while and spent ages looking at the old pics, some great one and mckellars pics have brought back memories, never would of thought i be driving a mckellar lorry now lol!
I’ve been trying to remember the name of a owner driver from Southend who did regular Italy, he had ginger hair, always drove Scania’s and I think his name was Terry.
His dad’s name was I believe also Terry and ran a few motors on Italy as well, knew how to get round the problem of not having enough of the correct paperwork for France and Italy.
Ring any bells?

very serious and debilitating disease that can be, don’t mock
Just got back from the shop with 2 bottles of frizz, going to light the barbie and reflect on the good old days while sitting out on the patio in 106 degrees of heat on this autumn afternoon!

his 60’s when i left Mckellars in 94!

RIP Harry. When he brought his wife with him he would say.’ Got the enemy with me this trip !’
He was in Swiss & parked at Laubli’s in Winter . In the morning the diesel was frozen . Laubli’s son ,the mechanic not the ■■■■■■■■■ came over & told Harry in great detail how to change the filter, bleed the diesel & get started. Harry waited for him to finish & said. ‘You do that -I’ll make the tea!’
The story he used to tell about when he was a young 2nd man or trailer boy & his driver had an even worse stutter than Harry
Stopping to ask for directions in Ipswich only to get the only postman with an even worse stutter than the both of em!Classic
Was his last name Ames?
Yes Gazzer, although I had one of the blue IP ones, probably lurking around in a box in a loft somewhere that I used to live, would love to find it, I had marked little crosses on almost every page
gazzer:
Now you ALL would have had one of these of one sort or another!
Yep! And I did the same as newmercman, putting little crosses on all the places you tipped and loaded for future reference. Wish I still had mine, seems satnav is the main contender now.
