Hi can anyone help, I have had a car licence since 1981 and passed my Class 1 in Jan this year, Do I have grandfather rights over my CPC, as I was led to believe if you had passed your test before 1996 this was the case. 
and I had till 2014 to do this, as I know several drivers and they told me this is the case ?
You have to have held your LGV entitlement before 10th Sept 2009 to get Grandfather rights. Drivers who held the licence prior to that date get the 5 year exemption until September 2014.
Thank you for that , I did have a 7.5 ton entitlement 
With you passing your car test you will have C1 on your licence which is classed as a lgv group so you have until 2014
