I can see it might work if just one test every 5 years BUT if lots fail it with exam nerves then what?

The DVSA intend to run this as a dual-track. Drivers will have the option of still undertaking the 35 hours or take the test. If they take the test and fail, they can then return to the traditional route and take the 35 hours

Other proposals include offering the 35 hours in more bitesize chunks with e-learning elements rather than the current 7 hours.

The plan is to offer the option to do an exam instead of the 35 hrs. The exam will cover a five-year period, so not a one-off, face exams every (probably) five years. But 35hr route must stay valid, especially for drivers going into EU/AETR areas, where the exam will not be recognised… And, if you do the exam, then change responsibilities and have to start going outside UK, then the driver will have to catch up 35hrs…
It isn’t finalised, it is still being argued over as far as I’m aware.

e-learning is already an option, has been for a couple of years now: max 2 hours e-learning per 7 hour course. But the TP has to offer it first, and have it approved in their application to deliver the course.

The E-learning element, as it stands now can be completed before or during the course. It doesn’t necessarily have to be done at the start

The DVSA proposal is to remove the 10/35 limit.

I didn’t mean it had to be done first before the rest of the course, I meant the training provider has to, in the first instance, provide the offer of e-learning, and they have to request the e-learning option when they apply for their course to be re-approved, it can’t be an option that is added later to the programme.
