If I drive HGV’s on an Island in England and if I was to never leave that Island (so never more than a 50KM radius from base)while working would I be required to have my CPC?? The work involved would be paid agency work so tipper, fridges and dray work.
The .gov.uk site was a bit vague with this as it mentions unpaid work and using the vehicle as a crane or for a mechanic but not this type of example.
A definitive answer would be interesting.Scotland has quite a few Islands ,Arran springs to mind where a commercial driver could work all of his life without encountering roundabouts or traffic lights.I used to brag about driving 100 miles most days using cattle grids but no RAs. or lights.
Driver CPC
Driver CPC Periodic Training Isle of Wight
Driver CPC Periodic Training right here on the Isle of Wight for LGV & PCV licenced drivers.
Any driver that drives for a living and drives a vehicle over 3.5 ton or carries fare paying passengers, is required to complete 35 hours of training at a JAUPT registered centre over a 5 year period. The current period ends September 2014 for LGV drivers and September 2013 for PSV.
Is this just for drivers going onto the mainland ?
The trouble would be that it isn’t just VOSA that could insist on seeing your card, the police can check as well and as I’m guessing the IoW is as much a part of the EU as the rest of the UK then you could still be done for not having one.
