I’m sorry as I am sure this must have been asked before, but can someone please confirm that CPC mod 2 can be passed in one of two ways:
- Doing a case study test or
- Doing a course over several days (which is more money but does not include a test).
Have I misunderstood this?
Thanks
You pass mod 2 the same way you pass mod 1a and 1b, by sitting a test at an approved test centre.
If you have grandad rights because you passed your car test before 1997, you can do 35 hours of CPC courses, ie. 7 hours x 5 days, to get your initial CPC.
If you don’t have grandad rights, you have to do mod 2 and mod 4 to get your initial CPC.
If you do have grandad rights, you have the option to do mod 2 and mod 4 OR 35 hours of CPC courses. You can’t fail the 35 hours of CPC courses because there is no test, so most people choose the 35 hours over doing mod 2 and mod 4 to gain their initial CPC.

The actual requirement is to have held a category such as C1, C, C+E since before September 2009. The acquired rights C1 is one way, the other being passing a test prior to September 2009.
