I have a general question about new starters and the CPC hours.
So, once you pass the Class C test this should provide you with a full CPC card that covers you for 5 years…I think thats correct so far.
Once that is passed (as I am doing it in 2 parts) I will then go on to do the Class C+E course of around 3 pr 4 days plus test. Can this then be used to go towards my next 5 years CPC (5 years down the line).
I will be competing an ADR course in December which I am told can supply 21 hours max towards your CPC- so does this also go towards the following 5 years?
If this is the case that should cover me for 10 years…or am I just making this up here? (Because thT sounds too easy to me…has to be a catch).
Example
Pass initial cpc modules 2 + 4 when doing cat C course
Get DQC dated for 5 years time
During the 5 years of the first DQC do 35 hours periodic attendance training - that will get you a new 5 year DQC just before your first one expires
Then during the 5 years of the second DQC do another 35 hours which will then get issued just before the second DQC expires
Repeat the sentence above again and again
For example, complete Mod 2&4 today, DQC valid until Nov 2026.
Then complete 35hrs of Periodic CPC next week, DQC valid until Nov 2031.
However, you would need to wait beyond Nov 2026 until you complete any further CPC for the next 5yr period (2031-36).
Some driver training is accredited and can count toward your DCPC qualification - worth speaking with forum sponsor on this as I believe they can offer it.

I’ve met people who passed their Cat C test but failed (ie weren’t offered) to do their Mod 2 and Mod 4, so they didn’t get their DQC and they weren’t entitled to work as a driver, only legally entitled to drive the truck on the road. I did a post on that on the newbies section a whole ago

There is a new rule now that you can do mod 2 and 4 over the next 18 months after you do your test. I originally thought your part 4 was just a normal part of the practical test tbf. So, so long as you pass the theory and practical, you would automatically get your CPC.

The driver cpc is separate to the licence
You need the cpc to use the licence commercially
You can pass C and/or CE without getting cpc then get cpc later to allow you to drive LGVs commercially

There is a new rule now that you can do mod 2 and 4 over the next 18 months after you do your test.
But as ROG has said, you won’t be able to drive commercially without Mod 2 & 4, which are pass/fail exams

Once you’ve got your INITIAL DCPC, it is possible to get some PERIODIC DCPC hours when doing C+E, BUT ONLY if that training school has had their C+E approved for DCPC, it’s not an automatic thing and it’s not common practice, so you’d need to make sure first

I think there may be a bit of confusion here. You can drive professionally for up to 12 months without taking the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) part two and part four tests.
However, to do this you must be taking an approved National Vocational Training (NVT) programme and apply to JAUPT for permission.
So for most people, this wouldn’t be relevant and if the apprenticeship is run correctly, there should be no reason why you haven’t had time to undertake the part 2/4

I am a returning driver having let licence (C+E) lapse. Just done my medical (over 45) and according the Doctor I passed. Have sent off D2 & D4 to DVLA recorded delivery & therefore I await DVLA to put the appropriate lettering back onto my licence unless they query the medical notes which in my case included ‘white coat syndrome’ blood pressure even though I take medication which the doctor was aware of at the medical I had. I am just being pessimistic just because doctor says I passed medical DVLA still need to authorise.
So, never did CPC before I let licence lapse. I ‘hope’ to drive general Agency work and am wondering and seeking advice as to what modules to take as some of them seem random like the logistics management module. I wont be entertaining that one. I have considered doing the ADR modules having previously held those while I was in the Military when I initially passed my HGV licence. But I thought that maybe I should build up my general driving experience first before I ‘specialise’ in ADR.
Therefore, which modules do you suggest I take to get my 35 hours of CPC register to do commercial driving…?
Personally I’d suggest doing (classroom) ADR with Tanks, that should get you 28 hours at most Training Providers, then add in Drivers Hours (either classroom or online)
