I just fueled up at Costco Coventry and it was 179 a litre (unleaded was 169!) . Over the road at Sainsburys, it was 196. This shows how much the rest are ripping us off, even the usually cheaper supermarkets!!

It’s a loss leader intended to be made up by the shop sales.
Do the maths 52p duty, 20p carbon tax at £78 per tonne 2.3 kgs per litre, 20% VAT on the total.
Even the big supermarkets realise that they can’t make all those figures add up and still be worth selling it.
Just filled up with diesel at Costco for 208cpl. Puma, across the road, routinely one of the cheapest retailers in the area are advertising 227cpl.
Went past a Jet station this morning at Wheatley Hill between the A19 and Durham with unleaded at 177p / ltr. Cheapest I have seen in the area for a while.

True it is a loss leader designed to entice people, but also dint forget the the need to pay an annual fee for a costco membership which should also be factored in to the equation.

I recouped the membership cost with three tankfuls.
Im a member at Leeds, we dont have a fuel station. I was visiting family in Cov, so used the fuel station. I save tons on my red wine and bog rolls to more than make up for my membership fee!!
Diesel will be getting more expensive by the years end when the agreed cuts of 90% sanctions on oil imports from Russia is implemented & all Russian refined products will be banned also two months later.
Fortunately I’m a Costco member at Sheffield and they have a PFS there. I’m in Burgos atm and have just filled up the tank @€1.98 with a €0.20/ltr government subsidy, I’m heading north to Bilbao for the ferry tomorrow and I intend to refuel just before reaching the port, as I won’t disembark in Portsmouth till late on Wednesday evening and finding a petrols station open to fill up will be a pita
Just filled up with red, costing me £1.55ph joke

£1.80 per litre leaves around 80p per litre to drill it, ship it, refine it, distribute it, stock it, and some profit for the oil company, shipper, stockist/retailer after duty, carbon tax, and 20% VAT on the total has been taken out.
Around 25tl a litre here in Turkey at the moment. Approx £1.25 a litre.
