Cory Cargo Services

OK gang, anyone want to tell me anything about this lot? Believed to be a London outfit certainly in the early 1970s and at least one of their wagons (an early Merc tractor) had ‘Cory Moor Genestal’ on the front

They started out as William Cory before the 60s, from Palmers Wharf Royal Victualling Yard, Deptford, doing handball meat work from London docks and wharves? Also did general work to fill in between.
In the 70s changed colour from white to orange and name McGregor Cory haulage then McGregor Cory Cargo Services.
Fodens, a long nose Scammel (Leyland 680 Super engines) and ■■■■■■■ 220 Atkis were not luxury, later we got Sedacs and even later, sleeper cabs! But it was a sought after job! I was lucky to get a job through connections and worked with them for 13 years!
It soon came under Ocean Shipping which part owned OCL with P&O) and went into to imported meat container work, from Barking and Tilbury, 39 berth - right at the beginning alongside Henry Smithers. There was Brain Haulage which did ACT containers from 45 berth.
We gradually lost the meat work and were left with horsemeat work for petfood (Melton Mowbray) connected to Frigoskandia, they were big at the time with cold stores everywhere. We were Loading from Sheerness and Newhaven docks
We did a bit of “continental work” (with a Merc if lucky) when you had to have a permit for each trip!
French co. Moor Genestal did the regular Paris Garonor trunk to our Stratford Continental Services depot. We had depot in Southampton and were linked to Henry Long, Bradford.
We were separate from McGregor Cory Distribution Services.
But by the 80s the rest of us were reduced to doing OCL containers out of Barking and Orsett but the rates did not cover costs… Sad, but good wages and hapoy memories
We were made redundant in 1983 :frowning:

Is this the same outfit ?

McGregor Cory Haulage ended up in Barking
