Continental Work,is it all gone forever for UK?

What with the decline in companies travelling abroad for work,do you ever think we will get the chance to get any work back in europe and futher afield, or is it all gone forever !

A lot is gone forever but we have recently got one contract back after the Polish transport firm who were doing it lost it and we have also started another job running to various destinations in Germany and Poland. Bits and pieces will come back but not so we see the number of UK registered trucks doing it as before.

it’s gone.

Next, the Poles and Lithuanians will be complaining about the Kazakhs stealing their work.

It’s just the way life is.

I am in the process of doing my first full weeks work in the UK for over 20 years,I am going on holiday Saturday and have to be home.I salute all of you,how the hell do you put up with the state of our road network, the chaos, the traffic the only pleasure this week so far has been having an English breakfast at the Riverside cafe,Colnbrook, thought it would have been developed over years ago while Jocks looks a bit posh.Plenty English lorries travelling around Europe, nothing changes just the names.

I’m sure I’ve seen a lot more British Trucks on the Continent in the last year than I’ve seen in the last few year. I think the pound/Euro thing has helped, maybe also wages have gone up in the East European Countries. I don’t know what it was like in the good old days, Although I doubt we’ll see loads of trucks from Kazakstan or any other Country outside the EU, I think if driver wages across Europe go up due to a shortage of those willing to do the job then drivers will be allowed in from Countries outside the EU to keep wages down. :frowning:

As Harry Said

It’s just the way life is.

I must live in a bubble,as I miss the continent, and the lads ,the crack, the crossings, the whole job,a different country every night, the early 90’s were just right for me…I must be getting old :open_mouth:

We still do it, I’m shipping out on Thursday and going to Barcelona, I doubt I will see half a dozen British trucks in the next week.

Is it really that bad ? hope you have a good trip

during the last couple of weeks i’ve seen more uk trucks in france and spain than before christmas and it’s a nice sight. if only they would turn on their cb’s we could have a chat.
unfortunately like harry says its not always good, i always see RH from nottingham and curries of dumfries but every trailer is pulled by a LT or PL its just a sign of the times.
