Congestion use hard shoulder

I’d like to thank all the pilchards driving HGV’s south on the M1 from where I came on today for having no concept whatsoever of what that sign means. (I’m singling out truckers here because, let’s face it, it’s what we have come to expect from car drivers).

I do mean thank you too. You’r inability to grasp the idea meant that I had an absolutely clear and trouble free run from J13 to Luton airport. As I sailed past on the h/s (at under the speed limit btw) and glanced across at you all looking upset or shaking your heads I did wonder why you thought you were right and I was wrong?

Do it regular on the m6 past Walsall myself, undertake so called professionals and I too have been offered coffee and had horn testing done.
Not my fault they can’t see road signs and overhead matrix’s.
Makes you think why the government bother spending money on road widening if no-one uses them.

M6 is different though, as if you want to continue to use the M6 you need lane 3, and in heavy rush hour it takes ages to get back over, if people let you.
M1 section mentioned is fine if nothing gets on at 12 or coming out of the services.
That on ramp at 12 must be the shortest distance ever between the end of the barrier (between it and the M1) and the lane starting to narrow.

I probably passed you as I was doing the same thing going the other way

I’m a regular through Walsall myself and if it’s busy I too use the hard shoulder and if you remember back to how it used to be it works well. Saying that,if the traffic is flowing freely, even if hard shoulder running is allowed I prefer to to keep off it.
Just last week in front of me,a horsebox was broke down between the M54 and J10 and was nearly hit up the arse by a couple of tools.

I don’t know about the M1 but through Brum you get a few now using the hard shoulder even when the lane isn’t live. There’s enough camera’s through there,I wonder if they ever get done?

I used to go to birmingham very often around 5 pm. Never had any delays as they were all queing on 3 lanes leaving the hard shoulder empty for drivers who watch the signs.

Cant wait when they finish it all the way to j4 m6. There will be no point whatsoever using m6 toll even with the worse traffic on m6 as the hard shoulder will be empty anyway.

But please keep it quiet. At least some of us dont have to worry about traffic delays. And I dont feel sorry for all the others queing if they were not bothered to look on the signs.

Shhhhh do it all the time on the M1, muppets the lot of them.

Strewth.when will you all realise , that lane is for Elite artic drivers only (THATS ME THEN :sunglasses: ), same as lane 3 on a standard motorway is owned by ALL bmw drivers.
when the hard shoulder is not available for use the rules are
lane 1 for english artics, lane 2 is for scottish/irish and foreign artic (sometimes foreign artics can use lane 3 at their discretion) aNY LANE OR ALL 3 LANES CAN BE USED WHEN DOING THE FOLLOWING( making breakfast or tea (not lunch that should be salad) making tea/coffee/watching a film on lappy)
All 4 lanes (more if really needed) if watching ■■■■ (for obvious reasons)
when not used as a congestion lane the hard shoulder is restricted for those impatient ■■■■■■■■ /must get to important meeting/don’t give a ■■■■ if i block the emergency services route driver who feels that HE/SHE IS SPECIAL AND BEYOND THE LAW.

Sainsburys in Bury st Edmunds?

Aye please keep quiet about the use of the hard shoulder so that those of us who can read will continue to have uninterrupted journeys whilst those who cannot read will continue to sit in jams, was on the M62 on Thursday morning heading west sign said use hard shoulder me and two cars moved onto it and promptly drove past miles of traffic funny to see the bemused look on some drivers faces as you pass them have to wonder if all those road works on the M62 were not a waste of money if no one will use it properly.

I was southbound MK-Enfield around 11.00am yesterday as well.

Very light traffic & the hard shoulder was empty, it was like my own special lane, all clear & traffic free. :sunglasses:

Came back using the (as Stobarts put it) Dreaded North Circular, up to J2/M1 & that was mostly clear as well.

1hr 20mins back to MK ! I cant do it on the Bandit as quick ! (but then I do go the long way sometimes  )

Drove up there once when told to use the hard shoulder only to be confronted by a red X on the next gantry. Got back into lane 1 (was in car) but won’t be doing it again and if the rest of you want to risk a fine and points be my guest :imp:
