Confused newbee (cpc)

first of all id like to say hi and thank you as a few posts on here have helped me alot in deciding not to go with a certain company

question is i have had stuff sent throu from qualitas and they say that to get a free artic course yafter you have taken and passed the cpc national exam but from what i have read it dont come out for atleast a year so would have to do the course again when it does come out

Which company have you decided not to go with?

Welcome by the way!

You sometimes find that companies are ‘linked’.

ive decided not to go with sterling as i have read bad things on the net about them
i got the bumph throu from qualitas and it sounds like they are saying the same as sterling about free artic training after you pass the national pcp (do i need to do the national cpc)

just done quick bit of reserch and sterling is in the same building as qualitas so im guessing they are both linked

i might just try a couple of training firms round dorset instead

You don’t need to do the national CPC - that is for Transport Managers and is of ‘A’ level standard. Glad you worked out the link!

If you pass your test before September next year you will get your driver cpc by ‘grandfather rights’ and will then only have to do periodic training like the rest of us.

I suggest you use a local training company - ask on here if the one you fancy is ok. If you use a local company you will probably get an assessment first.

You don’t say where abouts in the country you are?

Hi Chris and Welcome

Qualitas and sterling are the same company. They are both trading names of autosearch ltd.

Theres lots of material about these guys, if you are thinking of using them see this first  :

If you click the link in my signature or this (Forum sponser logo) it will lead you to an index where you can access a lot more info which may be of use to you

To book any LGV training I suggest the trainee-to-be, visits the training school, meets the head person(s) and has a quick look at the truck BEFORE parting with any money.

Using the site Search facility and putting the words TRAINING AND WHERE you wish to train may turn up some recommendations.

This is a very simple explanation for the two types of DRIVER CPC.
It deliberately does not go into any sort of detail as a lot of the details have not yet been finalised.

I have posted this in the PDF & the NEWBIES forums as it covers both the INITIAL & PERIODIC DRIVER CPCs.

There are TWO types of DRIVER CPC.

The INITIAL (to get a C or C1 licence) & the PERIODIC (ongoing) for when you have the C1, C or C+E licence

The INITIAL driver cpc is purely for a C or C1 licence acquisition and is about the same as what is done now but with some senario questions added as an extra theory test and a half hour extra of questions about certain areas of safety which may include physically showing the examiner how to strap, chain, rope a load etc

The PERIODIC driver cpc is to be (unless they change it) an ATTENDANCE of 35 hours of training at an approved centre or with an approved trainer and can be done in 5 x 7 hour sessions - the 7 hour sessions can be split into 2 half consecutive days.( 2 x 3.5 hours)

I do not know what it will cover or consist of because the DSA etc have not finalised it yet :exclamation:

If you have a C1, C or C+E licence on Sept 10 2009 then the 35 hours will need to be done by Sept 2014 to retain your right to drive for HIRE or REWARD - it does NOT affect your right to retain your LGV licence.

Those that pass the INITIAL driver cpc after Sept 10 2009 will have to do their PERIODIC driver cpc within 5 years from their pass date - the 5 year expiry date should be on the issued DRIVER CPC CARD.

The medical requirements will not change.

The upgrading to a C+E licence will not change from what it is now.

I Hope that I have managed to make things a little clearer and I regret that I cannot offer any more positive info than I have already put here

The DRIVER CPC is not the same as other CPCs

Welcome Chris,

I nearly got stung by Qualitas/Sterling but I realised the CPC course they offer is the Operator CPC which is only useful if your going to be a transport manager or running your own trucks. Te Driver CPC, which would be useful, isn’t on offer from them. Whichever company you choose try and get recommendations, or ask on here for suggestions , local companies in your yellow pages is probably better than using most of the national training schools.

Edit: crikey seems a few beat me to it

 well done Rog

its fastest finger first

I got 3 messages in before Rog woke up!

Welcome to the madhouse btw

If you would care to put where you are in the country people maybe able to help you with some good advice on trainin schools

" if it seems to good to be true it probably is "

As has been said you dont need the CPC that they are offering as it is the operators also Stirling and Qualitas are the same company

Try the "search " button at the top of the page to look for more info
