Streching it I know, but just North Manchester, any ideas what they did ?
Hi sniffy. I have a feeling they appeared when the water shortage was on trunking it down from the North East to Scammondan on Nount sarah’s.Never heard of them before or after.
John.
Later Manro vehicle, is the Hickson name still around ?
A lad called Ray Fairfoul was transport manager at Manro during this time and his son was in the traffic office for Premier Tankers (Howarth Bros Royton Oldham) who also did a lot of work for manro

Would that Hickson be the same Hickson of Hickson and Welch Castleford? There was another company in Stalybridge near Manro called Sterling Mouldings, are they still going,I used to take endless loads of styrene in there, usually from BP Baglan Bay.
Yes Chris Hickson & Welch took Manro over & Stirling moulding are still there but i think its now Atochem
JOHN
Anyone got any pictures of Richard Nuttals of Edenfield?

Thanks John.Yes that Atochem took over Albright and Wilson at West Bank Dock Estate Widnes,I think it was known as Elf Atochem.Whoever it belonged to it was still a long wait while the lab checked the tank sample.
Sterling Mouldings was a good drop though, there were three offloading points for styrene and t’canteen was good as well.
One or two Seddons which were built at the Seddon factory in Royton Oldham.
Came across some pics of the Astor waxes trailer, I think this was the earlier livery, the later livery was a bit snazzy with Astor Technical waxes for industry IIRC
Does anyone remember anything of Moston Haulage, who had a yard behind The Bowling Green Inn on Manchester Rd Oldham in late 70s / early 80s?
My father did quite a bit of driving for them, and as far as I can remember it was owned by two brothers - Malcolm and Alex Kilpatrick (Or possibly Fitzpatrick?). I think they ran an f87 or f88 plus a large box van amongst others.
At the time, my dad was also landlord of the Albion Inn nearby.

I have noticed a company that I haven’t seen mentioned on this topic and that is Hipwood & Grundy, I worked for them out of the Edmonton deport many years ago, but I also used to get loads through their clearing house in Salford when I was tramping, mostly from Proctors back to London. Good company to work for.
I used to live in Farnworth where H&G had there head office. I knew a few of their drivers who were on the black oil contract mainly delivering to that roofing felt place on Trafford Park. Hipwood and Grundys fleet always looked well.

Heres one for you, there should also be a few more on the tanker thread and also on the Northwest Truck Site which is now back on thanks to moomoo

They were still running these up to 1981.
I think Manro was bought out by an American company, Hickson had a packaging plant in Goole after Castleford closed.

This link shows the takeovers of various chemical plants, Manro, 2000. Akros 2001 and Pentagon Chemicals in Workington.

As for Hipwood and Grundy, we got two ERF racing pigeons and a couple of black oilers from them, in two plain white lorries with 14 litre ■■■■■■■■ (sweet))

As I’ve said elsewhere the name changes in chemicals are mind boggling, H&W at Cass is now Arch Timber Protection but the works are closed and they sub most manufacturing and have a small plant in the old ICI at Huddersfield… The Stalybridge operation may still be going, I seem to remember Norman Lewis or Simon Storage running motors in their colours out of there
