Dave the Renegade:
I haven’t missed Gaydon for the Classic show for a few years, but unfortunately won’t be there this year, but should make the Retro show in September.
Cheers Dave.
hiya,
I hate to admit it but travelling under my own steam (driving) is becoming a no no
now I like to go by bus now whenever possible, so these distant shows are out for
me even if you go by train there’s always a certain amount of additional transport
required to get you to the show site and the missus doesn’t like me travelling too
far from home by myself, there are one or two shows near to me that are easy to
get too by car but it’s nearly all new stuff of which I have little interest, I can pop
down to the motorway (a short walk away) and watch new stuff on any day of the
week, I’ve done the Barnard Castle show a couple of times but there’s never many
“antiques” just young drivers showing and continuously polishing new Scanias and
Volvos that have just rolled off the production line, and everybody knows my take
on shiny wagons, they don’t go any better.
thanks harry, long retired.
Its a shame that Gaydon is a long way for you these days Harry. The Cllassic Show this coming weekend is an excellent show for the older drivers, myself included. The venue is excellent. I’m disappointed not to be going myself this year, but I can’t make it on Sunday, as I find that’s the best day.
I am hoping to make it to the Retro Show at Gaydon in September. Like yourself I like to see the older wagons. There is quite a goodsmaller vintage show at Kington which is just down the road from here, so I will try and get there this year.
Cheers Dave.

Hiya,
Dave, my easy chair to the top of the stairs makes me puff and blow quite a bit
nowadays I did mean to stop having birthdays when I reached age thirty five, it
didn’t work, Ah’ yes if only we could turn the clock back, old fogies would be as
rare as chicken teeth, and undertakers would be on the dole.
thanks harry, long retired.

No worries Harry, you are still breathing, and cracking jokes with the best of them. A lot of my generation from this area have gone, but I just think how lucky that I’m still breathing, after some of my scrapes. Keep your memory of your lorry driving days Harry,at least you got to see a lot of places.
Cheers Dave.
Norman Ingram:
Lads the older I get, I find more friends and family seem to have disappeared from my life, that is a draw back of getting old.
I think once we all get past 60,we find that a lot of people and mates start to fall of the perch Norm. A couple of mates of mine from this village who were also lorry drivers died at 57,one from a heart attack and the other from that dreaded disease. Both were heavy smokers which doesn’t help.
I have never smoked and detest tobacco smoke. But keep smiling Norm, at least you are still breathing.
Cheers Dave.
rigsby:
I never even think about it Dave , when the bloke with the scythe calls I shall be the only one not worrying about anything . Cheers , Dave
That’s the way Dave. I don’t dwell on things like that, was just taking Norm’s point about seeing friends etc going as you get older. It was the same for every generation seeing friends and family disappear, but that’s going to happen to everyone.
As my old man used to say " you die if you worry, you die if you don’t, so why worry " , And he never worried about anything.
Cheers Dave.
I agree with your dad, I alway’s try to blank things out of my mind, but I state that growing old is not all it is cracked up to be. by the time you have the time and money to do things your health impares you, the insurance goe’s sky high, I am glad I made the effort to go places when I was younger.

As Jethro the Cornish comedian, says treat everyday as if its you last, because one day you will be right.

Hiya,
Haven’t seen that Jethro fellah on telly for a while he was a regular at one time,
I’m led to believe he has a couple of “well worth watching” DVDs out there but
I’ve never spotted them of course trying to get me round the shops is a task too
far I hate shopping with a vengeance, we do supposedly have the largest
shopping outlet in Europe on our doorstep “the Metro Centre” and if we ever
venture there I insist we travel by bus so’s the Missus can shop till she drops
while I retreat to a nice little Bistro type pub with my newspaper and wait until
she turns up for lunch which she enjoys before doing battle with the crowds, as
I settle back with yet another single malt with the compulsory half lager chaser
and wait until she gets fed up and wants to go home complaining of tired legs

Have a look at Amazon Harry, they have several of Jethro’s dvd’s on there. One of my Sisters bought me his latest dvd each year for Christmas, we have also seen his live show twice, once at Hereford and a couple of years ago at Brecon. Well worth a look, guaranteed to male you laugh.
He is at Hereford again on 31st of July, but we have a couple more breaks planned for this year,so that will take care of our funds.
Cheers Dave.
