Picture this - a red sign saying “closed” with a big hole across the narrow central city road. It’s a one way road. The other end is also off a narrow city one-way road.
On the road the water company have “closed” we have 18 customer’s who’s bins need emptying. Beyond the hole is their vans but no one about.
My boss thinks I should reverse up the one way from the other end with my camera and banksman, lights flashing etc and get as far as their vans so we can get to all the bins - overall distance might be 150m,
we only need to go 50 - 60 to get to the biggest bin store which would keep him quiet.
Question is: Is it ILLEGAL to reverse that distance? Highway Code says nought of use and everyone in the yard says different.
There’s no way to enter the “closed” road forwards, it’s too tight. Nor is there anywhere to turn round if you did manage it. I’m saying “closed” like that cos we didn’t get notice it was a planned closure from Highways… I’m in a rear steer narrow bodied Dennis RCV.
Thanks.
