Clear up overspeed query

It’s generally known that you can ‘get away’ with multiple overspeeds registering as just the one if you don’t press the tacho ‘OK’ button when the overspeed warning pops up on the display. When the company does the tacho analysis, does the overspeed speed only tally with the very first instance or does it show them the maximum speed you’ve done from later overspeeds?

For example, if I was driving along with a ‘clean’ tacho and then let it roll to 65 down a hill resulting in an ‘overspeed’ infringement, if I don’t bother pressing ‘OK’ and then 5 mins later go down another hill but let it roll to 70 would the company only “see” the 65 on their normal not-very-in-depth analysis? It strikes me that if they only see 1 infringement if you don’t press ‘OK’ then that means they only see the speed from that event, not future events. Am I correct in my thinking here and does anyone know for sure?

An over-speed event will be recorded when the set over-speed limit is exceeded for more than 60 seconds, overspeed events are stored with the start and end time of the event and the maximum and average speed of the event, as far as I’m aware pressing OK to get rid of the visual warning has no effect on what’s recorded for the event, if the over-speed lasts for more than 60 seconds the over-speed event end time will be recorded when the speed is reduced to no more than the set over-speed limit.

As far as I’m aware if the speed is reduced to the over-speed limit within 60 seconds no over-speed event should be triggered regardless of whether or not you clear the visual warning on the tachograph display.
(To be precise, unless things have changed an over-speed event with a duration of 00:00 will be recorded)

So to answer your question I’d have to say that each over-speed event should be recorded separately and not clearing the visual warning should make no difference to what’s recorded.

I can’t confirm or agree with what you say you can “get away with”. But what i can say is if you flag up an overspeed it will show as an event on your card and in the VU. The last five of your “events” will show if you scroll through your daily record, they will also show up on any print out. You see what they see, i.e events. They do not to my knowledge have a speed trace. I’m not even certain they can tell what the overspeed was…i.e 65 or 70, it just shows overspeed and thats it as far as i’ve ever seen.
