Class 1 supermarket work is ace. You get to heave away at overloaded cages with knackered wheels and if you are really lucky you get a pump truck to drag overloaded pallets onto your tail lift to spin round without falling off.
The wagons are all top of the range with aircon, fridges and microwaves and the start times and days are fantastic. Mon-Fri 8am starts is the norm.
Pay is astronomical and you will never work weekends and bank holidays and start before 7am. You’ll be seeing stars alright, when your monthly bank balance is already in the red by the 1st of the month…
(Only kidding folks…it’s absolute w@nk)
You missed off the 6 months full sick pay at average hours, the 16 lieu days I accumulated last year plus all the annual leave again at average pay, the in house gym, the full on canteen open 24/7, showers, share save, pension etc etc.
And what’s all this tipping on a tail lift with a pallet truck about ■■
That sounds familiar… The sick pay being subject to average hours deductions (each day you clock in and out a few minutes early/late - those minutes do mount up!)
…16 days holiday. You don’t get 20, because you’re on a 4x12 and statutory 20 days would be 5 weeks instead of 4. No sir-ee. That won’t do!
…Average pay? - That average will be brought down by you taking the two weeks off, which has to be in January/February when you’ve got an agency driver availability like famine victims gathering around someone who’s just blown chunks…
…In house gym? - You need to be fit to KEEP this job. Work-out is on each and every tail lift. Here’s a vid of the type of pallet truck press excercises you’ll be trying…
…The canteen is open 24/7 but goes for lunch when you’re 5hr50 into your shift, forcing you to contemplate the dried husks of what was once alive sitting under the hotlight…
…Pension save - your money is moved into the shares at their peak for the year, and you’re not allowed to sell what you’ve got, unless the market is down at the time. You’ll never see any share certificates.
…Pension? - Final Salary sounds good, but isn’t good if your final salary is zero, because you’re still on some TRG-style 40 hours contract that counts as self-employed in terms of what you get paid for not working those hours…

Bald bloke works for ASDA mate. As you live near me in the North West, you would be looking at ASDA Burtonwood.
Best wishes for getting in there
(If you prefer w@nk shifts and turning 1 tonne pallets of frozen chips round on a tail lift, Iceland Warrington is your ticket).
Can someone tell me what the meaning of those adverts on the back of Iceland Trailers mean?
“Best company to work for 2014”.
Do they mean “It took until well into 2015 to find out that was a load of ■■■■■■■■”?

That’s what you’d like it to be Wnseer for some reason but I think you know it’s nothing like that.

Have you thought about trunking for the parcel firms like TNT, Parcel Farce or Hermes? One hit trunking, stick it on a bay, drop and swap and back to yard. Easiest money you’ll ever earn, albeit not in large amounts. They all have hubs in the Midlands.
Are Championship matches days or nights mate?
Usually on Saturday afternoon mate. You see, sky doesn’t mug off proper fans in favour of the armchair ones in the lower leagues.
I am a little disappointed though, with Newcastle going up, that would have been an easy 6 points next season.
Do you think his truck windscreen looks like a piano keyboard coming at you?
Until you clock the tassels!
I was also asking the question mate on what sort of shifts the parcel firms do artic trunking, as my assumption would be nights, much like pallets…

I know a couple of lads who do the parcel runs. They start about 7 or 8pm and are usually done for about 2am. Guess like all haulage, it depends on where you’re going but they’ll need time back at the yard to sort stuff out and stick it on the vans.

I believe that applies to the stores, it won’t be distribution, thats done by DownHillLogistics.

Got a mate starting on parcel trunking next week, 16:00 to 04:00 approx. Other start and finish times are available.

The myth about that was the Iceland staff where given a pay rise ( there 1st decent one for a while). Then shortly after were asked to vote for there employer giving good reasons why. Surprise surprise Iceland won that year.

A.k.a. Drop it. Hide it. Lose it.

That sounds alright to me, have you got any idea about the pay roughly? Are they salaried?
There’s quite a lot of parcel companies around here, so something else to consider… If they’d give a useless newbie a shot

Only requirements to work for a parcel company, drive flat out and breath. ( breathing optional ).
