Class one supermarket work

Class 1 supermarket work is ace. You get to heave away at overloaded cages with knackered wheels and if you are really lucky you get a pump truck to drag overloaded pallets onto your tail lift to spin round without falling off.

The wagons are all top of the range with aircon, fridges and microwaves and the start times and days are fantastic. Mon-Fri 8am starts is the norm.

Pay is astronomical and you will never work weekends and bank holidays and start before 7am.

(Only kidding folks…it’s absolute w@nk) :bulb:

You missed off the 6 months full sick pay at average hours, the 16 lieu days I accumulated last year plus all the annual leave again at average pay, the in house gym, the full on canteen open 24/7, showers, share save, pension etc etc.

And what’s all this tipping on a tail lift with a pallet truck about ■■

Beaver you were in the wrong supermarket by sounds of it. The one where I work (backdoor not driving yet) if the wheels are knackered the driver just leaves me to get a pallet truck or restack it. “Health and safety” etc. If I want the stock I will sort it.

To be fair they all moan about the office staff, anti social hours and all the rules but all agree it is the easiest job for the money they have done. Also whilst the rules are a pain they can also be used against them when suits

We’ve recently had a warehouse knobber put through his class 1 to cover holidays & sickness…he’d stand on the bay and shout ‘come on drive, piece of pish’ etc etc… he was out with another driver as of last Monday to learn etc etc…Monday went ok, as did Tuesday…Wednesday on the other hand was more hit than miss, so don’t worry about lack of experience. There’s talk around the yard now that they might right it off if it’s twisted…one of those cheap French trailers with the chassis made from the foil off some Kit-Kats!

Pardon my ignorance, but may I ask how the ■■■■ he managed that?! :open_mouth:

Supermarket work sounds alright if you’re a kid on truck driver, enjoy an astronomical amount of petty rules that make doing the job impossible, don’t mind being paid by the hour agency getting a small handful of hours per week, driving unnecessarily slow and enjoy the brain numbingly unchallenging task of having everything down to where to start your reverse “risk assesed” and being treated as if you are not a grown up.

Made a tight left turn an Incy bit to tight on exiting a collection and despite being told to ‘mind the post’ and replying 'yeah yeah yeah, I know I know (a phrase he uses constantly as he knows it all already), he ‘caught’ it and despite the truck obviously stopping, he decided to give it some more beans…he’s one of those ‘flat out or ■■■■ all’ kind of people…brake pedal included! He’s been with all of us at some point over the last 2 weeks and we’ve all told the same story…follows to close, erratic driving style, ■■■■ poor lane discipline, slows down for nothing, doesn’t understand the concept of reversing and is a bit of a liability…we came back with 16 pallets of wine the other night, made him strap it up…moaned about it being a waste of time…I explained the consequences and his reply was ‘who gives a ■■■■’! I’ll leave it there!

Aldi or Lidl distribution centre opening at jcn 9 Wednesbury, Tesco Fradley depends which side of Brum you live, Sainsburys,I think, on Hams Hall

Ah yes, I believe that’s lidl. I’m in North Birmingham so J9 not too far away, I may go and ask and see what my chances are

The chances are you will stand at the gate, wave you licence in the air, and 5 minutes later you will be on the road, 2 days later you will quit.

Anyone new to class one should work for an agency for at least a year. Take anything they give you (legally) and get the experience. Chances are some of it will be supermarket and you will see what these guys are moaning about. IMHO the big problem with supermarket work is the bureaucracy, but that’s just me and lots of companies are snowed under with it these days.

Lidl at j9m6 is thro Drivers Direct only no permanent drivers,as said Tesco fradley,Sainsburys hams hall and if you want shop work there’s TKMaxx walsall, poundland bilston and willenhall (if desperate lol but PM me if you want contact number).
There’s Allied Bakery garrets green and West Brom,Farmfoods in Shirley too.

I forgot about allied bakeries, that’s pretty close to me, let’s just hope I can get on the ‘ladder’ so to speak

I’m not being funny here, but it seems to me that supermarket work is an odd niche to be aiming for as prospective artic driver, it may offer a good range of benefits but it lacks any sort of challenge. But hey each to their own and good luck!

I enjoy simplicity when working  I don’t get bored too easily, maybe I would get bored over time but I welcome it at the moment due to being a cover driver most of the time with not much structure.

Is that a joke…?

I’ve just looked at that on Google and can’t see anything challenging about that.

Googles 1 thing but there doesn’t look as much room when you drive past.

There’s at least 3 ways to do that, all of which are easy, if you think that would be a “challenging” place you must have it easy.

Having not done it or been in the yard it’s a different thing to driving past, but the quick look driving past doesn’t look much room, last time there was a container by the wall.

I know what you mean Jeff. Mrs B was stood in the kitchen earlier and it looked like there was plenty room to get past.

I’d forgotten the peril involved in negotiating a route past an arse that big :frowning:
