Does anyone have any experience working for Clarke Transport?
I did night trunking for them from their Manchester depot for about 18 months.
All the work they do on days or nights is easy enough. If the office give you to much to do then just take it back at the end of shift and as long as you’re not taking the pass with it then they’re fairly happy.
They pay pretty well as well compared to other companies doing the same dort of work

A former colleague from Freightroute went to Clarke’s in Eastleigh. I finally bumped into him delivering the other week in a rigid & I got the impression he’s not overly happy because he’s been in an artic only twice in the past 7 months (he trained me for a week at Freightroute). I was surprised seeing him in a rigid. I should think he’d be happy there if he was driving an artic everyday with the occasional day in a rigid like I do Work wise same as Freightroute, piece of pish

Nights for them I guess about 15 years ago now. Awful place that treated drivers like ■■■■. The kit was up together but the attitude was terrible.
To be fair, because I hated the place so much when the agency asked me to go, I could ask for Sunday rate cos no one else would go.
I see things have changed little.

Yep. Couldn’t trust anyone. Everyone was out to stitch someone else to save their own bacon.
This is 9 years ago now. I only managed a few months. But in that time I had 2/3 different depots managers.
All but one told me working for one stop was a terrible move, the one guy knew what I was looking for in hgv driving and said I’d love it. Lots of long timers there (at one stop) So you need to see for yourself really as one person’s dreadful company is another person’s dream job. If you have your ADR and enjoy pallets and curtains then give em a try.
I did 10 years with them at Ossett, and it was a good place to be at the time. We had a warehouse chargehand that thought he was God, but you tended to ignore him. As far as I am aware, there is only one of the old guys still there, and he must be close to retirement by now.
Our old depot manager was a proper old school Yorkshireman with a pipe, aka Freddie Trueman, and was a great bloke. We used to call him Jed, but I never knew why!!! Our supervisor was a Brummie, and ex speedway rider, and I only had cross words with him once.
Old man Clarke was a sound guy, knew everyone by name, which got my respect, and I am guessing he is no longer with us as his sons now run it. One was ok, the other was a tool.
At the time, the equipment was questionable, but as they have grown, I am sure that everything is leased, although the artics go night and day, so if you are on class 1, you may not get the same truck. We did at the time.
A lot of adr is moved, and I am guessing they have to be in the top 5 companies for moving such stuff which is all under packages. At the time they did a lot for ■■■■■■■■ and I used to go into the plant at Darlington 5 days a week, and loved it.
Saturday morning was optional. You were guaranteed 4 hours, and it was only to load what nights had left, but if they got their finger out, you could be left with nothing to do other than park the trucks up in order of leaving on Monday. If there was anything, then we all got stuck in. You might have been the unlucky one with a run to Darlington, but it was usually only a trailer change.
Christmas was the usual turkey and beer freebie, but nobody could go until the last man was back.
Don’t know what the money is like now, but since I left in 2000, I haven’t been anywhere near them as I know it won’t be the same.
