CKL 358

The C Townsend Hook Leyland Hippo CKL 358 was at the South East Bus Festival on Detling Aerodrome yesterday, whether it is sadly looking a shadow of its once former self in comparison to either of these library pictures, or now bearing the patina of a hard worked vehicle is a matter of taste. However it is beginning to look a bit fragile now. Hopefully its trailer has survived.

It did look a bit sad. Here it is at Detling last weekend, and also at Fort Amhurst in 1986.

Now 82 years old, in fact the same age as RV 6358 (Molly) the Portsmouth TD4 which I had the pleasure of pedalling up Detling hill. The E102 Leyland OHC diesel engine is a beautiful piece of machinery, but sadly proving rather fragile with several major failures reported in the last couple of years.

Here’s RV6358 plus a few more from the Detling show last weekend.
