 A 1619 ■■? 190 BHP?? :open_mouth: No Way !! what were they?? A naturally aspirated V8■■

If the 1626 was a naturally aspirated V8,Then the 1619 must be a naturally aspirated V6!
I see this motor also has a half sleeper cab!

The 1619 had an uprated version of the engine from the 1617. The 1626 was a V6, not a V8 bestbooties. The truck in the picture has a Jennings sleeper conversion as opposed to the factory M cab option (S was day cab, M was mid length sleeper, L was full length twin bunk sleeper). Some of Salvesen’s trucks had this conversion done due to factory supply issues on the M cab. The 1619 was Salvesen’s standard UK work spec tractor unit at 32 tonnes and the 1626 was used by them on European work. Prior to this they had used the LPS cabbed 1418 for the UK and 1924 for Europe.

I’m with bestbooties on this one, the 1626 was a V8, later uprated to become the 1628 in naturally aspirated form & the 1633 when fitted with twin turbos.
The 1619 was a straight six.

I thought the 1626 was a V8 along with the later 1635 /1644 while the 1622 /1625 / 28 were V6 and the migthy 1632 was a V10

newmercman,

Apologies to both you and bestbooties. The 1626 was indeed a V8 and used the OM402 engine. This engine had it’s capacity increased and became the OM422 1 in the 1628 with 276 bhp and the OM 422 111 in the 1625 at 247 bhp. The 1619 had the OM 401 V6 engine rated at 196 bhp.

Hi Acab
That picture of the 1814 brought back memories , I drove one for Clabin Haulage in Southampton on night Trunk in 1975 , Clabin Haulage I believed was owned by salveson , we used to change over with the Scotch lads at Nothampton by the M1 and run down to Smithfields among other deliveries , those 1418 were a struggle with thier 2 speed axles but they were changed for N reg 1924s , they were better , used to deliver Meat and reload Bananas .
remember them ? .
Frenchy

Hello Frenchy, yes I remember Claben well. The LP in my pic is one of the 1924’s from Blairgowrie depot which replaced the F88’s which were phased out due to continued cylinder head problems and a lack of support from Volvo to sort the issue. The 1418’s Salvesen’s ran all came from the Claben fleet in Aberdeen. I found a couple of pics which may be of interest.

Hi acab
Thats incredible , I did,nt think Id ever see photo`s of Clabins Mercs again, there were two of us on Night trunk out of Southampton in 1975 and we were doing 400 miles a night then , often if we ran out of time in Smithfields too long we had to stay in the Borhamwood depot , which was the old film studios . I still have my logs sheets of the night runs .
Well done that man.
Thanks , Frenchy
