Chinese Sat Nav Updates?

Just got a cheap Chinese satnav off fleabay from a seller called Goldbayrich, does anyone know how to update it?

Anyone got any experience of these? I just put a route in at 16ft high and it routed me out of Salisbury on the A36 right smack into the 14ft bridge at Wilton. Looks like it’ll be going back as it’s not for a truck as advertised.

I’ve been using one for a few weeks, mine has missed one 14ft restriction (on a B road near Preston) when programmed for 15ft but it has routed around other restrictions (in areas that I know). So its not all bad but the inconsistency means it can’t be relied on. Like you say it is not as advertised but for £35 then I suppose it was never going to be perfect. I’m going to stick with mine and hope my Mk1 eyeball (and common sense) keeps me out of trouble.

Are the mega bucks satnavs any more accurate/reliable when it comes to height (+ width and weight) restrictions?

xichrisxi… Can you do me a favour please mate when you get a chance?
Could you try your trucktable one a route from say Andes Road, Nursling, Southampton to Warminster, intersection with the a36 / A350, where the services are and let me know how it routes you out of Salisbury at 14ft 6in high. It should take you out via the A361 to the A303 or the A345 to the A303, missing the 14ft bridge at Wilton.

I don’t think any nav can be totally true, I understand what your saying though as it’s not a new Bridge may be he realise on feedback to update stuff, pays for what you get I suppose but in saying that my tom tom sends me strange ways just using the car

I appreciate what you say Nick, the Tomtom does want to take some strange routes sometimes. I’ve got an old TT720 with the truck maps and it’s never let me down where bridges are concerned though. It needs a new LCD Ribbon clip soldered in to get it back up and working but the Chinese ones worked out about the same price as a repair so thought I’d try one out as it’s a bigger screen.

Says A360 out of Sailsbury joining the A303 then eventually the A350
I’m not familiar with that area so couldn’t tell you if this is the right route but I’m assuming you will know.

Thank you mate, that’s spot on. It could ether take you out via the A360 or the A345. Either one is bridge free so that one sound good to me. A bit more direct route would have been the A360 to the A303 then the A36 up to Warminster which would be a little shorter than the A350, which would still link you up with the A36, but nevertheless…it’s avoided the 14ft bridge at Wilton!

Hello Everyone - I have just brought 1 of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/262336563972?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT and to be honest i have used it and it seems fine, but i really want it for Speed Camera locations which it says in auction title but sadly it’s not loaded them on, does any one know of were i can upload/update them to the satnav !!!

They run on the Igo platform which is the same as what is in the Iveco Stralis.

You can purchase an up to date speed camera database from the PGPSW website, but it is a bit of a pfaff to get it to work with distance warnings, but it can be done. Also they can’t differentiate between camera types.

If it was a Tom Tom, then the files ore OV2, and can be set for distance quite easily and these can tell the types of different cameras if you use the speed zoned variety as opposed to the consolidated type.

Full details are given from within the website.

(FWIW, I have a TT5150 and a Chinese variety.)

If you are lucky enough to report a new unregistered camera location, that can be verified, then you can win 12 months camera updates FOC.

Ken.
