Hi chaps
Can any of you remember poyntons of congleton they finished in about 1973 they ran a few flatbeds in navy blue livery, as i remember they had an eight wheeler (poss aec), F reg aec marshall six wheeler, E reg ford d700 + 1 or 2 more as i remember. We bought the marshall and the d700 off them, so if anyone as any photos of poyntons, i very like to see them. thanks
mushroomman:
I am not sure when they changed the county boundries around, was it in the early 70’s when Birkenhead was in Cheshire ( or is it still there ). Norseman Freight, Falcongate, not sure about Eric Lucas but Diesel Dave will know. Leggits had a big depot in Bredbury, was it Fieldings in Woodford ? and was there a Parks in Macclesfield. Also was there a Twiebell from around Holmes Chapel area and who was from Chelford was it James Irlam
. Bowies were from Altrincham and The Coop had a few lorries running out of the tea warehouse in Crewe, I remember their drivers used to park up near Leith Docks.
Can anybody remember seeing Roy Trevor Removals from Warrington in the early seventies who did a lot of Fibreglass out of St Helens.
Roy Trevor,s
When we moved to Calgary in 2007 they did all the stuff in the UK, as far as i know there still going. I also must say they did a great job

Has anyone mentioned dixons on Newcastle road they had a large out fit in the early 70,s theres a restraunt there now. ( thats fantastic food in there)
On Biddulph more there was a firm called MM or M and M tehy had light blue cabs with a red chassis
Just come to mind was a chap called Imber transport, he had a merc 1418 he lived by the traffic lights at mossley
John
All names i’m familiar with as i drive for Bougheys and see a lot around here.
I’m from Anglesey, my dad moved here around 1976. Before that dad worked and lived around Macclesefield, he was mates withthe Stevens family of R.H.Stevens, he even had a couple of his own (8 wheelers i believe).
Gonna show him this thread see if the names all ring a bell from his younger days!!!
If any of you remember a chap called Alastair Bell from Macclesfield in the 70’s i’m sure he’d love to hear any stories of trucking in Cheshire back then!
I can remember a few from the Crewe area from my earlier days,…
Plants from Crewe Cold Store…painted to look like wood very distinctive.
Cold store is still going but no haulage based there nowadays.
Chambers Street Transport…grey SedAtki Stratos pulling fridges closed in early 90s I think
Chamberlains from Haslington …still going strong based on Crewe Ind.Est.
R.Atkinson from Wybunbury…worked on Mornflake contract and also Labatts still going but as Cooper Buckley Ltd (thats who i work for !)
I remember trying to count the Hollands Cheese lorries at Calveley as my dad drove past whenI was a kid. Easy in the work but always lost count at weekends.!
Seem to remember one in Sandbach called Speedwell but my memory of this is a bit hazy
Danesbury from Congleton went bust in 99 I think…last I heard one of their office managers(Martyn Heap) was working for Arclid Transport anyone know of him…I did my national and international CPC at the same time as him in Leek
