Last time I saw Cross’s yard a couple of years ago they were running one old MAN if I remember. Yard was full of old tackle in the undergrowth, trailers stacked up etc. I heard that the land was to be sold for housing. Looked pretty much the same as when we used to go in there now and again when driving for Eric Dawson of Middlewich over 30years ago! Thought it had gone by now, but they still have a web site. Bob
Think Stobart are getting worried because G Cross and Sons are on the expansion. They have doubled the fleet, still got that MAN and now have a Scania. Bet Stobart couldn’t double his fleet over night…!
How much rust in the Scania? They never had too much cab rust when they ran the B-series ERF!
The right way up!
First post after some quality reading.
My Grandad owned JE Jackson haulage out of Audlem near woore in the 50s 60s and 70s running a variety of Dodges, guys an early Albion, amongst others, does anyone recall anything about Jacksons, from what I understand they ran out of trentham gravel pipe gate a lot, and had mainly 4, 6 and 8 wheeler rigids. I’m trying to piece together some more history and memory’s for my dad.
Thanks
A man who knows lots about Trentham Gravel hauliers from the 50s to the 80s is Allen Sturge, went to a slide show of his a while back, contained lots of Trentham Gravel lorries, sorry i dont have contact details but quite a few on here will know is wereabouts i
am sure…
Yeah cheers,
My dad is in contact with Allen sturge, he lives local to us, and they’ve had a good chat about years ago, I’m just hoping there’s other blokes out there who remember my grandad and dads trucks.

Hello John that old girl is ex Direct transport Oswestry , thank you Trevor .
Sorting through some old photos and found another picture of Dawson’s ERF 240 Gardner on the quay at Ullapool with packaging ex IPC Winsford in early 80’s. Taken after the one previously posted.
