i never go that way, i’ tried ringing him when this site first mentioned his dads company but got no answer
theres another garage chap i know in congleton. his place is on the left as you enter congleton from Newcastle
Paul Sheard. Sheards had a quarry that you pass next to the M6. sheards had a large fleet of mostly 8 legger KV
cabbed ERF lorries painted all red…someone must have a photo.
a lorry was pulling out of a junction on the A50 at Allostock one day, a youngish couple was going like hell in an E
type jag hit the side of the loaded ERF. the only thing you could recognize on the jag was the spinners on the wire
wheels and it was also red at one time. that must have been a bad day for someone.
Is that Ann by SMA.you’ll be in trouble if she sees that photo…the 13 must have come from woodwards…Bassets at tittensor likes 685
on the plate i was told…Montgomery from Ireland had 77 on his plates Dules also had regular numbers on their plates.
[/quote]
No, an old girl friend of mine - took that photo in 1987 - SMA 13H was registered new to Woodwards in 1970 and Haydons bought her '73 or '74. She’s still sitting around a/w restoration seen here in 2006 I think

It was new to Lathams as a drawbar car transporter, along with GHP 668L. I don’t know about 669, but 668 was built new with an 8LXB engine. When later acquired by a farmer in Lancashire, the 8-pot had gone and it had a 6LXB in its place. The giveaway was a big gap between the back of the cab, and the headboard!
PDU 314M, now preserved as a flat, was also new to Lathams

I don’t know if any of you remember a retired lorry driver by the name of Peter Thompson? Sadly, he passed away a few days ago. After driving for several Cheshire companies, Pete went to work at the sand pit near Withington Green, firstly operating the dredger then running the vehicle & tank wash.
Heartfelt condolences to his widow, Eilleen.
Found this on Facebook hope I’ve not upset the owner of photo
