Can anyone tell me please, how you can tell if an EU driver has points on his licence. A picture would be great.
Don’t think minor points transfer between countries
Drink driving reckless driving etc does
You could just employ UK drivers if you have any doubts
After the changes in July, there will be no paper counterpart for UK licences and you will have to go online to check convictions/points. It made me wonder how to check those from other EU countries.
Found his = aviva.co.uk/risksolutions/he … swer/1607/
Not sure if its much help
I think as it stands all eu countries have the 2 part licence. So points will show. After moving and living in the uk it’s a legal requirement to inform the driving licence issuer of your address driving points / bans issued cover all eu countries.

If you mean they have a paper counterpart, then that is incorrect. Certainly in France the only way to check whether someone has points deducted (here you start on 12 and go down to zero) is to do so online.

Is the driver now a resident in the UK ?
If the answer is yes he/ she should apply for a new licence with the new current residential address from the DVLA.
the other bit look here its an interesting forum chat that might help

Vocational licences:
By law, if you come to live in Great Britain and hold an EU/EEA vocational licence you must register your details with us within 12 months of moving here. To register you will need to fill in, ‘Application for a driving licence counterpart for non-GB licence holders’ (D9). You can:
• download this application from the website at direct.gov.uk/motoringforms
• pick one up at a DVLA local office, or
• order one by phoning 0300 790 6802.
It seems that there is no easy way to check - even with the new ‘unified’ system. If your insurance Co insist that drivers have 6 or fewer, there is no realistic way to be sure with anyone who does not have a UK licence.
As far as residency is concerned - there is no realistic way to know how long anyone has been in the UK either.
Maybe it will be enough to make them sign a declaration.

Or employ a British driver.

I thought this forum would offer practical and accurate advice - not snarky comments.

So the obvious answer is to employ somebody with a UK licence. Unless I’m missing something?
nick2008 is correct.
They do not need to exchange their licence but register and obtain UK counterpart to their foreign licence if they do not want to exchange (form D9). You leave yourself quite exposed by employing a driver with no counterpart as you are not able to check the points on their licence.
There is different points systems in different countries as far as I’m aware.
Not sure how is it going to look like after the counterparts are scrapped but I would assume that providing that an individual has registered you should be able to check their points online regardless of nationality.
Not too good is it.
I wonder how the hire car people manage? Actually I guess they don’t really care. Their insurance cover will only require drivers to have a valid licence - the good subsidising the bad.
I am surprised that they are not planning to put a chip on licences - or are they?
