Change TomTom 530 into Truck SatNav?

Hi All,

Just been doing a bit of Google searching to try n get the best price for a truck specific SatNav system.

However I stumbled upon some sites offering a simple SD card that claims to change my standard car Go 530 into a truck SatNav. Only a little over £100 instead of bout £450 for the whole unit.

Anyone know if these SD cards will give the exact same look/Menu options/routing etc that the truck SatNav would offer.

Also saw loads of files called Navcores claiming that they wipe the existing memory of the std car 530 and replace it with the identical files from the Tom Tom Truck satnav for free. Gonna avoid that however as I’d imagine it’s a bit risky and probably illegal.

you can do it yourself for free.
goto navitotal.com all advice/maps/help is there.
i did mine using that site

if any tom tom sat nave that uses a sd card then all you have to do is simply swap them over…
but, when you come to update the maps and what have you it wont work, because its only meant for fleet users. i know cos i phoned tom tom up. thats why i aint got one. i will stick to my tom tom 550 live.

Do a search for GPS underground.

you cant simply swop them over :unamused:
if you put the truck software onto an sd card you then have to patch it to the unit. it wont work in any other unit until it’s repatched.
trust me i have done a few in my time.and updated maps when a new one comes out.
tomtom will tell you its only for fleet users cos they want you to buy it off them :unamused:

Be careful what you pay for, people have bought so called truck sat-navs off eBay just to find that the truck map has been put on the devise but the firmware hasn’t been changed so the devise doesn’t give the truck options.

Your best option is to go to either Navitotal or GPSUnderground and do it yourself.

Just follow the instructions you’ll find on either of those sites and you’ll be fine, map updates and speed camera data do become available and are easy to install yourself.

Good luck.

yes thats correct what every one says , some people will claim tomtom 530 truck sat nav, this was never done by tomtom, what they did stole a satnav from people like me in London or buy any old cheap 530 and put all the needed files to SD card and charge more money, what you never see there is no so called Live truck satnav anymore, as there as some filles that just don’t work with them, as with everyting tomtom putting stop to it, you buy new satnav and will get few problems getting them to work, there is 2 things to ckeck, Navcore which is something like Windows 7 called “operating system” then maps, “application”, most of which is easy done by your self at no extra cost, but been honest I have old Go300 which is brick compare to the new is still works, is been in water and god knows what else, never let me down plus I have AA trucker atlas, I don’t need anything else even I know how to get most of them work on trucker’s one, my mate who got one of the tomtom truck’s one orignal from tomtom at £600+ called me how to get from Luton to Sittingbourne as he’s entrance was under bridge and satnav would not find route :open_mouth: so why pay that money if you still having problem

Thanks for all the reply’s folks. Gonna give it some serious thought. Cant really afford to knacker up my SatNav the now if it all goes ■■■■ up with swapping files n op system etc… Obviously gonna have to get it done eventually tho as it looks like it’s a choice of messing around with the files for free or pay £400 for a new unit. Kinda a no brainer.

You wont be swapping files and operating systems, the truck os and map goes on a 4gb sd card and theres no need to add or remove anything from your tomtom.
When the tomtom starts, it checks to see if a card is inserted and if there is an os on it, if there is an os on the card the tomtom will run from that and wont use the os on your device

Ahh I see! So if I cannot get it to work I just pop the original SD card back in? So not as risky as I thought! I’m def off to buy a SD card.

Even if it wasn’t on a memory card it wouldn’t be risky as long as you back everything up, I have an old Tomtom 910 with the hard drive and before I put the truck navcore and map on it I just copied everything over form the Tomtom to the computer.
That way if anything goes wrong you just put the original files back on the devise.

To be honest you should have a backup of everything on the devise or in your case the memory card anyway

SD card bought for only a tenner. Having a look at arranging the download of the files in prep for getting the card. There using so many terms that are alien to me but am gonna give it a crack regardless.

Make a backup of your tomtom first and use a card reader if you got one to put the truck onto the mem card,
