having just got a cb for my offroader i was tempted to fit it in my truck as it is dual voltage.
Do people still use cb’s and if so what channels do they use

Yes, am channel 19 myself, some use fm channel 19.
I wish VOSA had cb’s so we could wind them up.
Like.
“how many hours have you done today?”
“19 mate, and you?”
“21”.
You could do all this when you’ve been out of the game for a while and driving a brand new motor on your first day back.
Childish, I know. But [zb] it.
Depends what area your in. Up North Scotland its mostly UK FM they use, Central and South Scotland and most of Irish lads use AM.
Had on e for a year think ive heard about 3 people in that space of time.
A lot more truckers sshould buy them as it seems the idiots arent about any more.
But the toilet mouths are!!
Depends what channel your on i guess, my uncle has one when i go with him i hear a far few people talking mostly about weather condtions and all
Yes they are still used although not as much nowadays
Today whilst stuck on the M1 " for a change !"
the chat between drivers made the delay more bearable
ps never did see the two beauties in the yellow MX5
Channel 19 is considered to be the calling channel but its also used by a lot of home base idiots for just having a chat about nothing.
The company I work for use a different channel so that when in range we can talk to each other, its good fun …
…10 - 10
We had them fitted by Volvo, all the new vehs come with them fitted.
Don’t have it on all the time but when I do it seems to be alot better than it used to be.
I do keep hearing one guy he is a Geordie heard him a couple of times last week and then again this week…very spooky, yes it is the same guy.
set one up in my truck and after a week of sitting on 19 fm with nothing i was for chucking it… untill someone pointed out to try AM (over here anyway)
when i was on nights a lot o drivers use ch35 on m6 and ch23 on m1? if of any use/.keeps u away from the homebasers

Hope you got permission from ‘Leicester Control’ to use Ch23!! LOL!! The guy from Leicester (I think his name’s Dave) comes on around 6am EVERY MORNING without fail on Ch19 and announces the same stuff he has done for the last 6 years i’ve been driving about new speed cameras at the coffee shop on the Mike 1 etc etc…Can’t say that i’ve ever seen any there but hey ho, it keeps him happy!!
He moves to Ch23 in the daytime to give out directions to lost drivers etc.
What does pi$$ me off is the Ch19 home base hoggers who talk ■■■■■ all day long and think its funny to hurl insults at us ‘scabs in cabs’ and you get them everywhere
I once heard ‘Chocks away Charlie’ on the M1 near Leicester, some jobless scum started with the insults and he just kept firing it back at him…it was possibly the funniest thing i’ve ever heard!!!
The guy just went off channel in the end when he realised he wasn’t getting the result he was after!!!
I’m on the tippers for Hansons and most if not all of them have CB’s fitted.
We use Ch37 between ourselves but like has been said we all have our ‘own’ channels when we run in convoy, certainly makes the journey go quicker.
I bought my own CB coz the standard one fitted was pants
Got me an Intek 550 with the power upgrade, hooked upto a Sirio 4000 aerial on proper roof mount…I get good range with it!! M1 J13-J15 (approx 16 miles and my mate could still hear me!!!)
Only downside is other people can hear me at a distance but I can’t hear them coz they only running standard power
If your ever in the Northampton or Cambridge area and you see a Hanson Scania 8 wheeler with a ‘Roger’ nameplate in the screen, give me a shout on ch37!!
Roger dodge mate…over and out!!!
I had cb’s in my first 2 cars, was quite popular with the young guys in their cars for a while. They didn’t abuse it either, formal talk and all had handles. I usually gave them a shout if I passed them when going between towns or used it when coming upon a convoy of truck drivers. It seemed to die out in the trucks for a while though, my friend has a haulage firm and none of his trucks had them but they bought a few ex-Harry Lawson volvos and they came with cb’s then he realised how handy they are.
I do miss the CB. It was a great source of drivers urban myths when it was in full flow.
MMTM was invented on 27 Mhz
DV27 was short for Divi

Thats the only frequency the irish use buddy… In the past FM tended to be for homebasers.
Paid £120 quid for a package deal had it fitted for a week and took it out and sold it on ebay, nothing but old tarts going on about the ironing etc total waste of time in my opinion
Still popular here in Dorset, lot of the local firms have them. If anyone goes near Portland you’ll have a job to get a word in, all the the tippers have them, they seem to talk all day.
