Dont know if anyone as posted something like this up before?
I did do a search first but couldnt find anything.
Im just wondering what CB handle you have or have had in the past? and are there any reason why you have the name?
Ive come across afew people that dont have a Cb handle although most seem to still have one!
I used to have whistling grass as my cb handle becase the lads used to take the mickey as I used to talk quietly and nick named it me…so decided to have it as a Cb handle
But now using snowman (nothing to do with smokey and the bandit)
Bondi Tram, my first pseudo on here, goes back a long way to the 60s.
When the trams used to run from Sydney down to Bondi Beach, because of the rattling and shaking and impression of speed, the saying grew up in Oz ‘going like a Bondi Tram’. So, having lived there (BB) and having had a few wagons that reminded me of that, I adopted it for my first CB in 1980.
I used to be known as Georgiegirl, from the film of the same name, but only just discovered I was spelling it wrong many years after the film was made. Now have the dvd.
When I got my first CB in about 1979,when I was 15,and was of course a totally illegal am set,my handle was Black Panther, and that remained with me for years. I remember going on the Convoys to try and get it legalised, which we eventually got, albeit totally useless because it differed to everwhere else in the world, because of the strange frequency arrangement.
But now as I’m into amateur radio,CB doesn’t do it for me anymore, and in fact before long, the old 27/81 frequency will no longer be legal as a CB frequency in this country,as it is being given over to ‘Community Radio.’
To harmonise us with our European cousins, the mid band frequency will be the adopted frequency.
Funny how we campaigned for that from the outset, and were told we couldn’t have it,but now our neighbours have it,it has suddenly become acceptable.
Hve used th same handel for years now but hardley on it now esp in citys to many idiots !
am known as “P45” as for a short term i went throu a good few jobs ! lol
My use of the word banned for 27/81 equipment was slightly incorrect. The full details can be found in the above links, especially when it comes to the term,‘End of life’ regarding 27/81 radios.Take time to read them properly, and you’ll get a better understanding of how Ofcom works.
You may find that there are others using the old 27/81 channels when you travel through certain areas.Don’t be surprised if you hear things like religious broadcasts, and similar things on these frequencies.
in the old auntie mary days i started off as rib counter then switched to cheekie chappie after about 6mths and hav used it ever since except on the radios over here in Iraq i am known as spongebob
