After doing some research, I’ve found my current cb antenna mount is a Thunderpole DV; Would a Stinger fit straight into it to replace the firestick type one or do I need an adaptor of some kind. I’m thinking of the Ss type stinger possibly the longer whip as the mount is about 8inches below the roof on the cab wall.

If it’s a 3/8" screw thread, then yes.
Ken.
Anybody know where I could pick up an old style President Johnny? (the one with the small display)

I think so: It’s got a wing nut with what I’d call a quick release attached that the antenna is screwed into.
Almost all antennae and mounts use the same screw in fitting.
That’s why you can use a quick release fitting and CB suppliers stock them. Because almost any antennae will fit at one end, the other end will fit to almost any mount.
Almost, because I know of one antennae and fitting that isn’t standard size.
You don’t have this fitting, or your quick release wouldn’t fit.
I’ve just fitted my cb in my loading shovel; Fitted cig lighter plug to run it off 12v socket, Thunderpole Orbiter (the long version, not truckers one) antenna and 6’ mag mount. Apparently, drivers can hear me loud and clear (so far) about 3 miles away but according to Thunderpole, the range is “10miles+”. I can’t hear lorry drivers from the distance they say they can hear me, is this down to their equipment? They’ve got those short crappy fibreglass things supplied by Daf and Volvo so I guess I can’t hear them as their range is so short? Our MANs can’t get out further than half a mile.
Just to add my coax isn’t coiled up but fairly tight, threaded through cab window rubber and antenna is on the roof. Our quarry is surrounded by tall trees and I’d guess this and the height of the washing plant/ stockpiles would reduce range?
Muckaway
Short crappy fibreglass things are just that!! Only good enough for a convoy or in a yard.
When I first stated having something to do with Lincoln (1984), my ex and her folks lived next to Lincoln Castle.
Her mother had a UK40 CB to a silver rod, I had (I think) a Fidelity to a DV27s and also a DV27W besides 2 metres.
On the short aerial, the signal was unreadable by the time I got to the River Trent. The DV27W would hold up until I got to Worksop.
2 Metres (From my ex) would go all the way to Chesterfield, drop out then back up to endstop climbing out the other side.
You’re right about the quarry reducing the signal
Cheers
Tony
