Even earlier we had a Volvo auto on demo.
It would have been late, 1990’s, and I didn’t drive it myself.
Using bulk liquid food tanks, some loads (fruit juice) were 18,000 l for 24 T in a 25,000l single tank. Tricky enough with a manual box, but the demo apparently spent more time changing gear than it did actually getting anywhere.
I won’t judge modern boxes by what was current 30 years ago though.
Good luck trying to fit a Getrag or 5 speed ZF to a 4.2-5 litre supercharged V8.
Tremech I think has been tried ? but the electronic remapping and control unit modifications, needed to fool the engine management system , that the electronically controlled auto is still there, are prohibitively complicated and expensive.
It’s not a job that can be done at home in a weekend. Also no factory pedal box assembly was ever made for such cars.
Easier and cheaper to buy a manual V12 Aston Martin or convert a V8 Merc SL or E class saloon.
Seriously why would he want it any quicker? Don’t know what the engine is but in any trim a decent XF like that is as quick as anything like for like in real world driving these days.
If you want a racing car get a racing car and go on a race track.
A Fuller manual was hard to beat, performance-wise, in the mountains. I remember driving across the Atlas Mountains in Morocco using an AS-Tronic wishing to hell I’d got a 9-speed Fuller, with which I could definitely have done the job better and more safely, if less frugally!
The older truck autos were truly awful. Newer ones do seem better.
I enjoyed driving the A75 in France with a 2006 DAF; 16speed ZF synchro box, fluid retarder, and exhaust brake.
The A75, for those who don’t know, is a m-way with a series of ups and downs that knock the socks off anything in the UK. Being m-way it is easy to be lulled into a false security, but the descents will cook the brakes of the unwary very quickly.
The combination of retarder,in any gear, at higher road speeds, plus using the exhauster in lowest possible gears, keeps the service brakes fresh.
Similar applies to a car let alone a truck descending most of the big Alpine passes.
Also the long incline of the A40 between Chamonix and Bourg.
Ironically I actually prefer the shift lever controlled manual facility of the Defender’s auto box to the steering column paddle shifts fitted on the others and use it more than the auto on that. The Ingenium petrol 6 is as good as a V12.
It’s not about driving everywhere like it’s a race track. It’s the sharper power delivery of all mechanical transmission and ability to just manually choose the exact gear required. They’ll sometimes be in the wrong gear at busy roundabouts and more lag than a manual from standstill for example. It’s a matter of choice which is being removed.
As for the race track I actually prefer driving the new petrol 6 cylinder Defender to the V8 F type if it has to be an auto. That would definitely be my favourite car of choice if only could afford it and insure it.
Next stage drop it into the car.I haven’t got a clue how or where it happened according to SDU.But somehow it did actually happen at my address without me knowing by who or how.But all moot because the whole thing is a cardboard hoax anyway according to SDU.
Where it all began SPM 6000 SE JagSport supplied motor, Weber Alpha ITB induction kit, DJB Getrag bellhousing. All fake made of cardboard according to SDU.
Here’s a picture of my favorite Jaguar, in front of Lake Burley Griffin, Parliament House, Canberra. Does the ability to post a picture prove I own it. I can only wish.
Let’s try to sort the facts from the fantasies.
Facts
Carryfast needs a car that out acceleratess every other vehicle from the lights, every thousandth of a second matters. Here, that is called hoon driving and will smartly get your car impounded.
Carryfast likes to pretend he is and has the skills of Tom Walkinshaw.
SDU is not trying to get Carryfast’s personal details.
SDU has no intention of taking out a contract on Carryfast.
Unconfirmed claims, so at this point considered, Fantasy
Carryfast owns the racing Jaguar in question.
Carryfast, thirty odd posts back it was suggested to you, how to clear the air. Simply take a photo of the car, with a piece of paper with CARRYFAST written on it, covering the numberplate. No need for you to be in it, no need for a V5, bill of sale, or any identifying information.
Instead you revert to repeated behaviour, make a b/s statement then fluff the entire thread up with irrelevance but avoid the crux of the discussion.
Next you’ll be saying that it’s also not my garage or driveway. The pics were taken somewhere in Australia.
How far do you want to take your bovine excrement. We all know that me holding a written note saying this is Carryfast’s motor, the same motor as shown in the pics, won’t cut it.
But I’ll probably do it anyway.
It’s just give me an idea for a new thread.
Everybody has a mental picture of what someone looks like.
A bit like radio dj.s before you could look on the internet, they always looked shockingly different to how you imagined.
I wonder how many would dare show their ‘boat races’ on here.
Fair go, you’ve done SFA to allay any suspicions and your previous form doesn’t instill confidence in anything you spew forth.
You’re the one who needs six or seven litres with a manual transmission to prevent any power or torque loss. You mentioned using it on a race track, which frankly it sounds eminently more suitable than as a road car.
As shown, how would anyone on this forum, know whose driveway it is?
Why? I doubt you will find such a photo, already on the double ewes.
As you’ll see I’m of the Winseer school of thought.Don’t see the point of online anonymity and security then posting personal id and pics all over the internet.
SDUs position v BH just seems a bit weird.
