Carna Transport

im not after a job there, but whenever anyone seems to ask about jobs in Ireland, they always ask about Nolans Transport.
I was just wondering why ive never read about anyone asking about Carna, nearly every Nolan motor ive seen looks like its been round the clock at least once, where Carna have a very nice fleet of new/nearly new motors, from what ive seen mostly new V8 Topline Scanias, their trailers are all new/nearly new, no scabby curtainsiders there.
I remember that they used to do a lot of Sweden a few yrs ago, specializing in computers etc.
Ive never read anything bad about them on here, so whats the craic with them, why do people seem to ask about Nolans and never Carna? maybe its cos of the talliban working there? but they work everywhere so it cant be that??
If i was thinking of euro work with the Oirish, Carna would be be my first port of call.
I always seem to see 1 or 2 motors parked up in BP Rugby truckstop whenever i pass there.
Like i said, im just curious…

Probably cuz Nolans will let anyone on with a heartbeat.

im sure one passed me the other day in France

Walsh Western are still going just probably not as large as they were when Dell was manufacturing in Ireland. They have trailers in Synchreon on Magna Park and see them pulling TNT trailers as well.

i thought the eastern european company had bought out walsh western… batsim batsam something like that, 4x2 red scanias. ive seen a lot of them pulling walsh trailers on the corridor.

i was chatting to a carna driver… well i use chatting lightly, he was talking to me and i was trying to get away to the point other drivers on the ferry were starting to take notice and giggle. he said they are all limited to 52mph and everything is legal.

I lived and worked in the Republic of Ireland for about 5 years and I never once heard a good word about Carna,in fact a lot of stuff I wouldnt put in print! And as for 52 mph I assume that was in low-range? :grimacing:

Synchreon is Walsh western. They only have a few trucks of there own most are owner drivers or contractors my uncle worked for them for about 20 years as a driver then as an owner driver.

Earlier on in the year whilst looking on their website, it said that they were hiring, so i called, they told me to download the application form and send it back asap ! Did that twice and never heard a bean :open_mouth:
Still waiting, :open_mouth: Haven’t been sleep for 8 months :open_mouth:

I knew a couple of english guys who drove for Carna around 10 years ago and they both rated the job. Typical irish for the time, good money in the bank but you earned it. I believe they went down the standard route for irish companies in employing drivers full of eastern (european) promise. Having suffered the usual rise in damage, loss of reliability associated with these drivers I believe they are now trying to lure back the Irish drivers.

As kr79 said, Syncreon is the new name for Walsh western. They have scaled back a fair bit since Dell finished in ireland. although I believe they still have a few of their own trucks the majority of trailers are pulled by subbies, which was always the case.

The finish of Dell in Ireland has had a massive impact to quite a few Irish companies who were in on that work.

There are still loads more continental driving jobs in Ireland than here in the uk but the pay rates are through the floor. Most lads consider themselves lucky to make €100 a day all in. The main two reasons for that are the general state of the economy coupled with the fact that the rates are at an all time low.

The old Irish way of running hard and turning the job round quicker is no longer feasible in Europe and most hauliers want things by the book. This has also had a considerable effect on the amount their trucks can earn.

I drove for Carna for 8yrs, left in Nov 1999 and couldn’t say a bad word about them…though many would. They where at that time the biggest in Ireland and possibly still are. They went everywhere and still do. The money was good and they always paid on time.
I also did a run for Carna in May of this year.
The only difference now is that, as a driver, you will be employed by Brada Transport Services( Carna) on contract to Carna Transport:wink: The fleet is good and well maintained and they run 100% legal so don’t listen to anyone who says otherwise. Btw they have a long list of driver’s looking a start.
The only bad point I would have to say is that sometimes you would have to wait around, usually UK, for a back load but I put that down to there being to many driver’s and not enough loads. Overall I would recommend them.
