wow what a thread !
been north east based can remember a lot of the tranporters & companies pictured
sorry about the size of the pic but here is my old S/A with 7 car salvage hoyner trailer, taken late 90’s
had this because at the time 5 car transporters were mega bucks & this was the cheapest way to car quite a few cars at once, but not so good when you went into city’s with only an a to z & no bridge height info or sat nav, ended up in some horrible situations with the peak deck almost hitting stuff on once side the single axle cutting in on the other side…as quite a few of you reading this thread will have experienced
Prabably 50 % of the damaged cars I delivered didnt drive so everyone wanted the transporter backed into there street or down their back lane, reason it had to go after a couple years of delivery hell with it,also had a J reg 1726 V8 drawbar merc which was a cracking wagon but no good to load for salvage & couldnt pull the skin off a rice puddin fully loaded, sounded great ! but was painfull on the hills
ended of with this ex- norman marshall scania which was faultless & never gave any trouble

I think this may be the same A Robinson i used to see at the auction at Bathgate on a Sat afternoon. I was on for Beamish bringing scrappers back down on wagon and drag. Be about 1996.

Hi all
i can remember them overhanging top decks as a very little boy my dad had me hanging out the window watching it round tight corners/traffic lights & the like not that he needed any guidence i think it was just to make me aware of things & unbeknown to me was all part of the teaching process cheers pop!!Also my job was the skids as in pulling them out putting em away, with eventually moving on to the hydraulics to raise/lower the top deck,my dad was only a short arse & elf n safety hadn’t been invented then!!
regards Andrew
hi Andrew i used to do the same with my Dad also let me roll the cars of the trailer happy days ,who did your Dad work for ?,cheers mark
One of Stobarts semi trailers,Cary’s 7 cars, this driver wanted his load in drop order rather than get his height down !!! Me personally would have put that Toureg in the dive down to get height down, looks like this fella will learn the hard way !!!

Looking at the gap Peter if he had just brought Toureg down the ramp closer to the car in front would have been enough to give plenty of clearance & would still be in drop order. Your right tho the time it’s taken to try & get the deck height down it would have been quicker putting it in the well & swopping it round at the drop for piece of mind.
Does anyone have any photos of Arcade Automotive, or Tiptoe Transport?
Glenny54 , are you back at work now ? if so how you doing ?
